As the only team from Da Nang City "chosen" by the Da Nang Student Association to compete in the VUG Futsal Championship 2023 taking place from December 22 to 24, 2023 at Cau Giay Stadium (Hanoi), the men's futsal team of Duy Tan University has truly demonstrated its strength and courage when overcoming all strong opponents to win the prestigious Championship Cup in the 9th season of the tournament.
After 2 years of interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, VUG Futsal Championship has returned for the 9th season to celebrate 10 years of VUG accompanying generations of Vietnamese students. The tournament is co-organized by the Vietnam Student Association, Warrior Energy Drink, VTVCab and implemented by VSDS Center and MSE GROUP. This year, the teams will play in a knockout match, which means that if there is any subjectivity or mistake on the field, the teams will have to leave immediately with regret.
Duy Tan University is the Champion of VUG Futsal Championship 2023
This year's VUG Futsal Championship National Finals brings together 8 strong teams from universities representing 6 regions across the country, including:
- Hanoi Capital Area : Dai Nam University, University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi;
- Ho Chi Minh City area : Van Lang University, Van Hien University;
- Da Nang City Area : Duy Tan University;
- Hai Phong City Area : Vietnam Maritime University;
- Can Tho City Area : Can Tho University; and
- Thai Nguyen province area : University of Information and Communication Technology - Thai Nguyen University.
Coming to this year's tournament, the boys of Duy Tan University have set the highest goal of "winning" the Championship Cup. Because VUG Futsal Championship is one of the biggest tournaments of the year and the Duy Tan University team set out to compete with a very ready and confident mindset when receiving enthusiastic support from the school's Board of Directors along with the dedication of the entire coaching staff.
The joy of lifting the prestigious Championship Cup
In particular, the men's futsal team has a "dream" squad with talented, enthusiastic and experienced players. Before participating in the VUG Futsal Championship 2023, the Duy Tan University team has achieved very impressive achievements this year such as:
- Champion of 7-a-side football tournament for students in Da Nang city
- Runner-up of the National Student Futsal Championship Poly Cup (SV5 Poly Cup) - Central Region
- 5th place in the National SV5 Poly Cup Finals.
In the second time returning to Hanoi in 2023 (after the National Final Round of SV5 Poly Cup in April 2023), the whole team always maintained high concentration and strong solidarity to "fight" for the flag and colors of students from Duy Tan University as well as the Da Nang City Student Association.
With the knockout format, each match is a "final" for all teams participating in the tournament. In the Quarterfinal match taking place on the afternoon of December 22, Duy Tan University's opponent was the team of the University of Information Technology and Communications - Thai Nguyen University. It can be said that this was the most difficult match for Duy Tan University players because it was the first match so the team did not have time to get used to the field and space of Cau Giay Stadium. However, with the determination to overcome all obstacles, the whole team showed good adaptation and the ability to quickly "catch the rhythm" of the match. Therefore, Duy Tan University's men's futsal team won the first victory with a score of 2 - 1.
Convincing victories mark every beautiful move on the field
Entering the Semi-final match for the "golden ticket" on December 24, Duy Tan University's team "faced" the representative from Hai Phong, Vietnam Maritime University - the team that won 2-0 in the previous Quarter-final match against Nam Can Tho University. Both teams entered the field with confidence and excitement after having previously had convincing victories. However, with the tactical direction and use of players of Coach Nguyen Tuan Vu, along with their bravery and experience, Duy Tan University's players completely won with an overwhelming score of 2-0 and advanced straight to the Final match that afternoon.
In the decisive match to find the Champion of the 9th VUG Futsal Championship, Duy Tan University met Dai Nam University - the representative of the "host" Hanoi. On the journey to the final, Dai Nam University successively defeated 2 representatives from Ho Chi Minh City, Van Hien University and Van Lang University, on penalties to face Duy Tan University. Facing a strong team like Dai Nam University, Duy Tan University team could not easily break the "defensive barrier" to put the ball into the net. When half of the first half had passed but the score between the two teams was still 0 - 0, the atmosphere at Cau Giay Stadium became tense and "hotter" many times, seemingly dispelling the cold of the capital Hanoi.
Doan Van Manh, Duy Tan University won the title of Top Scorer and Best Player.
Until the 12th minute of the first half, seizing the opportunity from an accurate pass from Trung Hieu, Van Manh - player wearing the number 9 jersey of Duy Tan University made a very tricky diagonal shot, sending the ball flying straight into the opponent's net. The goal that broke the deadlock gave the boys of Duy Tan University more strength, like "tiger growing wings", playing better and better, coordinating more and more sharply, and scoring 2 more goals in a row from the positions of Thi Tai and Van Manh. Ending the first half with a score difference of 3 goals, Duy Tan University almost touched the championship cup.
Entering the second half, Duy Tan University player Van Manh scored another goal, becoming the only player to score a hat-trick in his wonderful final match. With a convincing 4-0 victory, Duy Tan University team became the new King of VUG Futsal Championship 2023, completing the goal of bringing the Championship Cup to Da Nang fans.

Nguyen Van Tan - Captain of the Duy Tan University Futsal Team shared: " We arrived in Hanoi just one day before the first match. Besides, Hanoi is in the cold spell at the end of the year, at times the temperature dropped to 10°C, which is really a huge challenge for the whole team. However, the biggest motivation for us to overcome all difficulties and try our best is the trust and hope of thousands of Da Nang students for the team. More specifically, in the stands of Cau Giay Stadium, there was also the presence of Mr. Le Nguyen Bao - Principal of Duy Tan University and the school leaders who came to cheer for the whole team. All of that, along with the spirit of determination, solidarity and playing with all our hearts, plus the coaching talent and professional guidance of Coach Nguyen Tuan Vu, helped us win the championship in the VUG Futsal Championship this season ."
Along with the Championship Cup, Duy Tan University won all 3 individual titles:
- Pham Viet Khanh was honored as the Best Goalkeeper.
- Doan Van Manh won the title of Top Scorer and Best Player.
This sports achievement is not only the pride of Duy Tan University but also the pride of the student community of Da Nang City.
