Duy Tan University won first prize in the ASEAN Startup Competition

This outstanding achievement is a testament to the creativity, ability to apply technology and profound humanitarian spirit of Duy Tan University students towards the disabled community.

ASEAN Green Entrepreneurship Hackathon 2024 is a competition to promote innovation and entrepreneurship towards sustainable development in the Southeast Asian region. The competition is jointly organized by Universitas Islam Indonesia, Temasek Polytechnic and P2A Organization and sponsored by MyTRIZ. Out of nearly 200 registered teams, the Organizing Committee selected 30 teams to compete in the Qualifying Round and finally "finalized" 10 teams to the Final Round. Teams from 9 universities in the ASEAN region were very excited to participate in the competition with many quality projects and products.

The product "Active prosthetic leg" has low price but high quality, suitable for the requirements of disabled people in Vietnam.

The product "Active prosthetic leg" of the FLEXILEG team won Second Prize at SV - STARTUP 2024 and the National Student Startup Festival 2024 in the field of Technology & Product Manufacturing, Third Prize at the Final Round of the Accessibility Design Competition (ADC 2023) in the Asia - Pacific region.

The members of the FLEXILEG team, including students Ho Ngoc Huy, Ngo Huong Giang and Ngo Thi Thach Thao, have not only created a modern mobility aid but also a step forward in the field of manufacturing products for the disabled. In the first version, Version 1, which won prizes in many competitions, the FLEXILEG team focused on carefully researching the size of the lower limb samples of Vietnamese people of many ages, from which they designed an accurate and optimal 3D model. The knee joint uses a hydraulic shock absorber system to support flexion and extension movements, combined with springs to increase flexibility during movement. The finished product has a low cost but high quality, suitable for the requirements of the disabled in Vietnam.

Coming to HACKATHON 2024 this time, the FLEXILEG team has launched Version 2 and brought the "Active Prosthetic Leg" to a new level with many outstanding improvements. In addition to the stable product structure, the FLEXILEG team has designed a more solid and high-quality hydraulic cylinder system to ensure stability and safety during use. Silicone feet are added to increase elasticity, bringing a more natural feeling to the user, while enhancing the aesthetics of the entire product.

Overcoming all, the product "Active prosthetic leg" was awarded the first prize at the ASEAN Green Entrepreneurship Hackathon 2024. This is not only the pride of the FLEXILEG group and Duy Tan University but also a testament to the creativity, application of advanced technology and entrepreneurial spirit of Vietnamese students in the context of international integration. The success of the FLEXILEG group promises to open up many new opportunities, while contributing to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities in Vietnam, in the region and in the world.

Ho Ngoc Huy, a member of the FLEXILEG group, said: " A distinct highlight of Version 2 is the ability to adjust the force on the foot, allowing the product to flexibly adapt to each user, thereby creating maximum comfort. The adjustment mechanism at the elbow is also intelligently designed, convenient for adjustment, while the socket is made of lightweight and durable carbon material, helping to reduce the weight of the product while still ensuring its sturdiness. In addition, we also tested the product with the support of the Danang Association of People with Disabilities and Hospital 199. Three disabled people were selected to experience the product and all gave positive feedback. The product not only meets the requirements for mobility support but also brings confidence and comfort to the user ."

As one of the lecturers who spent a lot of time and enthusiasm accompanying the FLEXILEG group, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duong, Vice Principal of the School of Technology (SET) said: " I am very happy to have worked with the Center for Mechanical Engineering (CME) and the student group to create a very meaningful product. With 3 competitions at different levels, the level of competition gradually increased, but Duy Tan students continuously left their mark and demonstrated the mettle of Duy Tan University teachers and students. Their achievements this time have affirmed the right direction to develop a 'Startup University of Duy Tan University'. The product 'Active prosthetic leg' has demonstrated the creativity, humanistic meaning, and practical application of the Mechanical Engineering industry in life. This is a meaningful gift from teachers and students to the school on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Duy Tan University. "

The Organizing Committee awarded many prizes to the teams with excellent projects and products including:

• Second Prize: "WING zeolite eco-technology incinerator" project by UII 1 group, Universitas Islam Indonesia
• Third Prize: "Sustainable Kaya" project by group TP2, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore
• Best Presentation Award: "Deforestation Problems" project by UII3 group, Universitas Islam Indonesia
• Biggest Social Impact Project Award: REOIL project - BINUS 5 group, Binus University, Indonesia
• Audience Choice Award: "Litter Trap" project - DNSC 1 group, Davao del Norte State College, Philippines.
