Phu Yen authorities proposed to build terminal T2 of Tuy Hoa airport with a capacity of 3 million passengers per year, with an investment capital of 1,500 billion VND.
The information is stated in the official dispatch recently sent by the People's Committee of Phu Yen province to the State Capital Management Committee at enterprises. Tuy Hoa airport is 5 km south of Tuy Hoa city center, about 40 km from Bac Van Phong special economic zone and 160 km north of Cam Ranh airport.
Accordingly, the new passenger terminal (domestic) will have a capacity of 3 million passengers per year, which can be expanded to serve 5 million passengers when needed; the project also includes auxiliary items and synchronous infrastructure. The project is expected to be built in the period 2023-2025. Capital source is from the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).

Currently, Tuy Hoa is a level 4C airport, the passenger terminal has an area of over 638 m2, capacity of about 550,000 passengers per year; the airport area includes two runways (one is damaged); the aircraft parking area is 5,000 m2, meeting three parking positions...
Regarding the reason for proposing to build a new terminal, Mr. Ta Anh Tuan, Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee, said that local tourism services are recovering and developing after the pandemic. The number of tourists coming to Phu Yen is increasing.
Specifically, in 2022, the passenger volume through Tuy Hoa airport will reach over 620,000, an increase of 20% over the plan. This figure also exceeds the design capacity of the existing passenger terminal by more than 20%. It is expected that by 2025, the passenger volume through this airport will reach over one million passengers per year.
According to Phu Yen leaders, the locality is prioritizing the development of tourism into a spearhead economic sector and attracting investment to develop important industries such as metallurgy, refining, petrochemicals, energy production... in Hoa Tam industrial park and Bai Goc port.
This also creates the premise for Phu Yen to become a new gateway to the East Sea for the South Central and Central Highlands regions, combining Van Phong Bay - Khanh Hoa province to form a comprehensive economic zone with great influence in the region.
According to the orientation for the development of the national airport system in the period of 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, by 2030, the expected capacity of Tuy Hoa airport is about 3 million passengers per year.
At the same time, according to the first report on adjusting the planning of Tuy Hoa Airport until 2030, the airport's capacity is expected to be from 3-5 million passengers per year. Therefore, the investment in building Terminal T2 - Tuy Hoa Airport is considered necessary to meet the transportation needs and quality of aviation services at Tuy Hoa Airport.
Tuy Hoa Airport is located on the coastal road, connecting National Highway 1, the North-South expressway in the East and the Central Highlands via Phu Yen - Dak Lak expressway, National Highways 25 and 29.
