Quang Nam authorities proposed to conduct a large-scale search for the 13 missing fishermen until October 22, after which only coast guard and navy ships will be deployed to carry out the task.
On the morning of October 21, the Quang Nam Border Guard made the above proposal in a meeting with the Nui Thanh district authorities, search and rescue forces and relatives of the 13 missing fishermen at the Forward Command Post at Ky Ha Port Border Post, Tam Quang Commune.

Yesterday afternoon, after the navy ship brought the 78 surviving fishermen ashore, four Ministry of National Defense ships remained at the scene searching for the missing throughout the night. Compared to four days ago, the search area was expanded to 60-70 nautical miles in the area where the two fishing boats had an accident.
Reporting to the command post, the search vessels said that this morning the weather and visibility were favorable, and the cameras on board could easily observe a wide area. However, the weather at sea in the coming days will be worse due to the appearance of cold air and the northeast monsoon. The rescue team determined that a large-scale search was no longer possible, instead they would inform ships traveling in the area and abroad, hoping to find the missing person.
Faced with this plan, Mr. Ngo Duc An, Vice Chairman of Nui Thanh district, requested that the authorities continue searching for another day.
Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Huyen, sister of missing fisherman Dang Minh Vuong, expressed that she no longer hopes that the victims will return alive but hopes that ships in the region and abroad will find and bring the bodies of their loved ones to the mainland.

After the meeting this morning, Colonel Tran Tien Hien, Commander of the Quang Nam Border Guard Command, said he had asked the Provincial People's Committee to report to the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue to direct large-scale search forces until October 22.
"In the following days, coast guard and navy ships will carry out combined search missions. These ships will observe and notify passing cargo and fishing vessels to detect missing victims," said Colonel Hien.
Previously, at 7:30 p.m. on October 16, a boat captained by Mr. Luong Van Vien, 47, from Nui Thanh district, and 53 fishermen had an accident while squid fishing about 70 nautical miles from Song Tu Tay island, part of the Truong Sa archipelago. A nearby fishing boat rescued 40 fishermen, recovered 2 bodies, and 12 people were missing.
At 1:00 a.m. on 17/19, the squid fishing boat captained by Mr. Tran Cong Truong, 42, and 38 fishermen was sunk by waves 135 nautical miles from Song Tu Tay Island. A nearby fishing boat rescued 38 people, but Mr. Nguyen Duy Dinh, 63, was missing.
On the afternoon of October 20, nearly four days after the sinking of two squid fishing boats, the surviving fishermen were brought by Navy ship 467 to the wharf in Tam Giang commune, Nui Thanh district.
