Proposal to invest nearly 10,000 billion VND to prevent flooding in Thu Duc City

To reduce the risk of flooding and improve environmental sanitation in Thu Duc City, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board proposed that the City invest VND9,933 billion (equivalent to USD430 million) to build drainage infrastructure.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (Management Board) has just sent Document No. 380/TTr-BHTĐT to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee proposing to invest in the Flood Risk Management Project in Thu Duc City.

The Project aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the existing urban core area of Thu Duc City and improve environmental sanitation.

To achieve flood reduction objectives, the Project will construct and rehabilitate dykes, culverts, stormwater pumping stations and store floodwater through the construction of reservoirs.

At the same time, a sewer system will be built to collect rainwater and wastewater. The project will also build a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 130,000 m3/day and night to treat wastewater in Thu Duc City and domestic wastewater generated in the Ba Bo canal area.

The total investment capital of the Project is 430 million USD, equivalent to 9,933 billion VND, of which the proposed loan from the World Bank (WB) is 350 million USD (equivalent to 8,085 billion VND) to build the project items, the rest is counterpart capital of Ho Chi Minh City for site clearance.

Regarding the implementation progress, it is expected that the project preparation will be from 2024-2025. Project investment and construction will be from 2026-2030. The entire project will be completed and put into use after 2030.

Upon completion, the Project will directly benefit 360,000 people living in the existing Go Dua area and 1.5 million other people living in Thu Duc City.

Regarding this project, recently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee sent a document to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Ministry of Finance proposing to include this project in the list of mobilizing loan capital from the World Bank (WB) for implementation in the coming time.
