According to the report, the Urban Development Program of Quang Nam Province for the period of 2020, with a vision to 2030 in Decision No. 1367/QD-UBND dated April 17, 2015 of the Provincial People's Committee and the Planning of Quang Nam Province for the period of 2021 - 2030 with a vision to 2050 in Decision No. 72/QD-TTg dated January 17, 2024 of the Prime Minister have determined the goal of Quang Nam having 23 towns by 2025, including Tak Po town (Nam Tra My). However, up to now, Nam Tra My district has not yet formed an urban district.
Tak Po town is expected to be established with 4 villages, with a natural land area of 103.09 km2 and a total urban population of 4,523 people. Regarding the evaluation criteria, Tak Po town meets the standards on population size, natural area, type V urban area, socio-economic development structure and level, including budget revenue and expenditure balance, multidimensional poverty rate, and non-agricultural labor rate.
Regarding the establishment of Atieng town, on July 2, 2010, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2117/QD-UBND on approving the adjustment and expansion of the general construction planning and promulgating the Regulations on the management of the Tay Giang District Administrative Center. Up to now, Atieng commune has been assessed and recognized as meeting the criteria of a type V urban area, ensuring the standards for establishing a town, with a population of more than 4,000 people, a total area of nearly 60km2 , ensuring a balanced budget, and a poverty rate of about 36.8%.
Thus, when the resolution is passed, Quang Nam will not change its natural area, population size and the number of administrative units at district and commune levels. Of which, the commune level will increase by 2 towns and decrease by 2 communes. Quang Nam will have 17 district-level administrative units, including 14 districts, 1 town and 2 cities; 233 commune-level administrative units, including 188 communes, 29 wards and 16 towns.
In addition, according to the submission, the Provincial People's Committee also proposed to expand the administrative boundaries of Huong An town (Que Son). Specifically, expanding the administrative boundaries of Huong An town on the basis of the entire 11.17 km2 of natural area, population of 8,746 people and the entire area and population of Xuan Lu village; part of the area and population of Phu Cuong 2 village, Thach Khe village (belonging to Que My commune, Que Son).
