Speeding up the issuance of fishing licenses for '3 no' fishing vessels in Kien Giang

On August 31, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province announced that Mr. Lam Minh Thanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of this province - had concluded at the meeting on combating IUU fishing and preparing to work with the 5th inspection delegation of the European Commission (EC).

The fight against IUU fishing in Kien Giang has achieved positive results, but there are still fishing vessels that violate the route and cross maritime boundaries; the implementation of registration, inspection and licensing for "3 no" fishing vessels (no registration, no inspection and no fishing license) in the locality is still slow.

Mr. Lam Minh Thanh requested the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to focus all resources on completing fishing vessel management records, especially for the "3 no" fishing vessel group; strictly inspect fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and supervise loading and unloading of goods through the port.

Local authorities focus on thoroughly handling violations of illegal fishing in foreign waters; strictly handling fishing boat owners and captains who disconnect the journey monitoring device while fishing at sea.

The locality has especially accelerated the registration and issuance of fishing licenses for the "3 no" group of vessels with lengths from 6m to under 12m, contributing to the fight against IUU fishing and the early removal of the EC yellow card.
