Currently, Quang Tri province is in the peak of the hot season, with high temperatures lasting for many days, some days reaching over 38 degrees Celsius, which is a very high risk of forest fires. Therefore, in the mountainous area of Huong Hoa, the forest rangers have increased coordination with relevant functional forces to organize propaganda to raise people's awareness and responsibility in forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting.

As a border commune of Huong Hoa district, most of the forest area in Huong Lap is located in the rugged mountainous area, making it difficult to protect and implement fire prevention and fighting plans. Therefore, raising awareness among people about forest fire prevention and fighting through propaganda work to minimize the risk of forest fires and better protect the existing forest area is the best solution that the Forest Protection Department of Huong Hoa district focuses on implementing.
This work is widely deployed by the District Forest Protection Department in all communes and towns with forests using various propaganda methods such as: mobile propaganda through loudspeakers, broadcasting systems, through public meetings to disseminate laws...
In May 2024, Huong Lap Regional Forest Protection Station under Huong Hoa District Forest Protection Department coordinated with functional forces in the commune such as: Commune Police, Commune Military Command and related agencies and units to organize 2 propaganda sessions using mobile loudspeakers on forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting and legal regulations in the forestry sector for people living near forests and forest edges in 5 villages in the commune.
This form of propaganda is organized annually by the Huong Lap Regional Forest Ranger Station to help improve the ability to control forest fires and effectively carry out forest fire prevention and fighting.
Also through these mobile propaganda campaigns, people in Huong Lap commune grasp the regulations of forestry law. Thereby, people raise their awareness and responsibility in protecting forests, participating in forest fire prevention and fighting, thanks to which there have been no forest fires in Huong Lap commune for many years, and forest resources have been developed sustainably.
Mr. Ho Khun, a resident of Huong Lap commune, said: Every year, forest rangers propagate about forestry laws, forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting, I know more about the value of forests for life, understand more about the responsibility of each person in protecting forests, know how to prevent and fight forest fires effectively. The whole community of my village lives near the forest, so we have to protect the forest.
Located in a region with a large area of mountainous forests, Huong Hoa has a total forest area of over 51,000 hectares, of which natural forests are nearly 40,500 hectares; planted forests are over 10,000 hectares. In recent years, the district has actively assigned forests to communities, households and individuals for management and protection, so the District Forest Protection Department has proactively coordinated closely with functional agencies, the Huong Hoa - Dakrong Protective Forest Management Board, the North Huong Hoa Nature Reserve, and the 337 Economic - Defense Group to deploy forest management, protection and forest fire prevention and fighting for the people.
In particular, focusing on propaganda and mobilizing people to actively protect forests, prevent and fight forest fires has minimized forest fires caused by people's carelessness.
Every year, Huong Hoa Forest Protection Department organizes meetings with people to disseminate forestry laws in most villages and hamlets; organizes over 200 dissemination sessions on the loudspeaker system; dozens of mobile dissemination sessions; organizes signing of commitments to protect forests, prevent and fight forest fires with village communities, household groups, households assigned forests by the state, forest product processing and trading establishments; builds billboards to disseminate forest management and protection; organizes training on forest fire prevention and fighting for members of commune-level forest protection teams, forest protection teams of communities, households living near forests, etc.
Along with strengthening propaganda and education to raise people's awareness and responsibility in forest fire prevention and fighting, Huong Hoa District Forest Protection Department has stepped up inspection and control of the number of people entering and leaving the forest every day during the hot season.
In particular, the forest rangers closely monitor the use of fire in and near the forest by people. During the period of extreme weather and climate in the area, with severe heat, the Forest Protection Department of Huong Hoa district mobilizes people to stop slash-and-burn farming activities, not to use fire to treat the ground cover; at the same time, strictly handle acts of using fire that have a high risk of causing forest fires.
Strengthening propaganda on forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting in many forms and for many subjects has helped Huong Hoa achieve the goal of "protecting forests at the root", minimizing the occurrence of forest fires and reducing damage caused by forest fires.
