According to Dan Viet reporters, in Duong Lieu commune (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi), going through the fields, it is not difficult to see farmers busy harvesting mulberries at noon.
Previously, farmers in Duong Lieu commune mainly grew Buddha's hand, jujube, guava... However, realizing that mulberry is highly profitable and easy to care for, many families choose to grow mulberry to contribute to increasing income.
Picking mulberries takes a lot of time. You have to choose ripe, beautiful-colored mulberries. The picker also has to be skillful and careful to avoid crushing the mulberries.
According to a survey, on average, a household growing mulberry in Duong Lieu commune will harvest about 1 ton of mulberry. This year's harvest is good, so it is expected to harvest 1.5 - 2 tons of mulberry.
Each day, a person will pick 20 - 30kg of mulberries.
According to Ms. Quyen, her family has 2 hectares of land growing mulberry with nearly 100 trees. She said that this year the weather was favorable so the mulberry crop was good, every tree had ripe red fruit, heavy on the branches.
Because they have to work under the hot sun for long periods of time, farmers have to wear sunscreen while harvesting mulberries.
Mulberries have many uses, are very good for health, and are reasonably priced, so many consumers buy them to soak in wine, make syrup, and make summer drinks.
During a rare moment of rest, Ms. Hong (Duong Lieu commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) said: "Because mulberries ripen and fall very quickly, I often prepare food and drinks at home, then harvest at noon to sell to traders in time."
Consecutive trucks carry mulberries from the garden to the market to sell to retailers.
Also according to research, this year because of the good mulberry harvest, the price is also cheaper than last year. Currently, the wholesale price for traders is from 12,000 - 17,000 VND/kg, about 5,000 VND/kg lower than last year.
However, when it reaches the market or supermarket, this fruit retails for up to 40,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, a retailer confirmed.
