At the meeting to express gratitude to Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline workers who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Le Nguyen Mai Phuong (grade 12 student of Lam Son High School for the Gifted) shared very emotional things when representing the young generation of Thanh Hoa province to speak in front of nearly 900 delegates.
Mai Phuong said that since she was little, her parents told her about the Dien Bien Phu victory through poems and she still remembers them:
Dad tells the story of Dien Bien
Our army won
The Westerners were captured alive.
We solve each group
General De Castries surrenders
The outposts were all leveled.
Flag of determination and victory
Flying on the roof of the tunnel
Afternoon of May 7th
A historic summer afternoon.
Growing up, through lessons and books, through songs and documentary films, through stories heard from her grandparents, Mai Phuong understood more and more that the Dien Bien Phu victory was a 'golden history' of the nation. It was a victory of patriotism, of the cause of national liberation and the spirit of determination to fight and win, courageously overcoming all difficulties and challenges of the Vietnamese people.
'70 years have passed but the Dien Bien Phu spirit still lives on, eternally existing with the mountains and rivers, resounding heroically in the minds of Vietnamese people today. Being able to attend the program to meet and pay tribute to the 'living witnesses' of the Dien Bien Phu victory, I find this a very sacred and proud experience', Mai Phuong said.
Citing the story of Mr. Trinh Dinh Bam in Yen Dinh who apologized to his ancestors, dismantled the altar to complete the wheel part, increasing the load capacity of the wheelbarrow from 100kg to 280kg; about the contribution of Thanh Hoa when the whole province mobilized nearly 179 thousand people to participate in the frontline labor force with 27 million working days, 11,000 bicycles, 1,126 boats... to transport for the campaign. Along with that, the province provided more than 4,300 tons of rice, accounting for 30% of the rice serving the campaign and necessities, accounting for 40% of the food used in the campaign.
With the above arguments, Mai Phuong affirmed that Thanh Hoa mobilized all human and material resources, pouring out baskets and baskets to supply the front line until the last grain of rice.
'When I hear the words of praise that Uncle Ho gave to my homeland, I am very proud because now wherever the Vietnamese language goes, the Dien Bien Phu language goes there, wherever the Dien Bien Phu language goes, the Thanh Hoa people also have a part of the honor', Mai Phuong said.
Following in the footsteps of previous generations, Mai Phuong promises to strive to improve herself and live a life of dedication to be worthy of the sacrifices and great contributions of the heroes and martyrs who fell to protect the independence of the nation. Along with that, she will continue the tradition of her heroic homeland Thanh Hoa.
Ha Minh Anh (residing in Sam Son City, Thanh Hoa Province) said: Being able to attend the meeting, pay tribute and listen to the stories of the Dien Bien soldiers of the past made him very emotional and proud.
'As a young Party member, I always respect and preserve historical values, especially international campaigns such as the victory at Dien Bien Phu. Today's meeting is really meaningful because maybe in 5 or 10 years, you, the old men - the Dien Bien soldiers of the past will no longer exist. Therefore, today, I have tried to accumulate a lot of living materials from your stories. From there, it will help me have more diverse sources of knowledge to later retell and educate the next generations,' Minh Anh said.
