Setting up its Asian hub in Indonesia, FIFA affirms its goal of uniting the world through football

Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized that in his speech at the opening ceremony of FIFA's Asia Office called "Asia Hub" at the Menara Mandiri tower in the capital of this Southeast Asian country.

According to Mr. Joko Widodo, FIFA's construction of an Asian Office in Indonesia will open up development potential for football in the world's fourth most populous country.

He also stressed the government's commitment to FIFA President Gianni Infantino in always supporting and facilitating the Federation in enhancing the integrity and quality of Indonesian football.

Jakarta is ready to cooperate with FIFA in developing adequate sports infrastructure as well as training, education and development of young Indonesian football players.

The President hopes that FIFA’s presence in Jakarta will be the first step to realize more achievements for Indonesian football, improve the quality of competition in the country, inspire young people to achieve their dreams, strengthen the spirit of sportsmanship and conquer the world. Indonesia’s hosting of the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup could be the first step to hosting more FIFA events in the country.

Appreciating the great potential of Indonesian football, as well as the country's strategic position in Southeast Asia and East Asia, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that through the new 962m2 Asia Office with about 40 employees, FIFA not only wants to impact Indonesia but also promote the development of the entire football region.

“This is an important step in our goal of uniting the world through football and demonstrates FIFA's commitment to growing our sport globally,” he said.

Referring to plans to build a training center for the Indonesian national team in the new capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan province of "a country ready to invest in the future", Mr. Infantino affirmed that this would be "the right place for FIFA to work for the future of Indonesia and the whole of Asia".
