On the morning of December 20, the Faculty of Creative Communication, Nguyen Tat Thanh University organized a workshop on "Media training in a competitive context".

Associate Professor Dr. Vu Quang Hao - Head of Creative Communication Department - shared that communication is considered one of the hottest industries of this century.

According to Mr. Hao, there are currently more than 30 universities training in the field of communications. He raised the issue of how to compete fairly and train effectively, creating a difference in training.

Talking about the attraction of students to the media industry, Dr. Huynh Van Thong - Chairman of the Science and Training Council of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City - said that there are many factors.

According to him, the media industry is "hot" because candidates with outstanding social science skills do not have many choices of majors, media is an agent that influences society and attracts attention, the focus on corporate media expands career opportunities, and media livelihoods are diverse.

According to Mr. Thong, public and private schools have different strategies, advantages and enrollment scales. To ensure training quality as well as sustainable competition, Mr. Thong proposed a number of solutions related to training programs, teaching staff, and links with businesses...

"Large-enrollment schools should consider adjusting their scale soon to balance short-term and long-term goals, avoiding the consequences when the traditional training bubble bursts. Schools should also compete based on the value of outstanding training programs and quality teaching staff. Avoid the situation of 19th-century facilities and 20th-century lecturers teaching 21st-century students," Mr. Thong added.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Tran Ba Dung, head of the Marketing - Communication Department of Hoa Sen University, cited studies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City showing that the demand for human resources in communications - public relations - advertising - marketing is very large, but the number of graduates is much smaller, and businesses have difficulty recruiting communications personnel.

Assessing the competition in media training, Mr. Dung said that the media training program is the key factor determining the competition of schools. He gave factors such as unique and trendy training content, bringing modern interactive technology into training, highly practical curriculum, building a connection network and job opportunities...

Many delegates also said that schools should adjust their training programs, allowing students to approach careers early and participate in communication activities at media agencies and businesses.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Dung - former head of the Faculty of Journalism, Academy of Journalism and Communication - said that in order to create their own competitive capacity, training institutions should train students with the ability to design and create communication messages. In addition, it is necessary to equip students with knowledge and skills to design and manage effective communication campaign plans. The final factor is to train social media human resources including knowledge and skills to gather and operate social media channels to proactively start a business.

In terms of media units participating in training, journalist Le Xuan Trung - deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper - said that any school that provides training that meets the needs of learners will win in the competition.

Mr. Trung also believes that in the context of technological development, media training needs to focus on training learners to be able to change jobs. " Tuoi Tre Newspaper has participated in the process of training human resources in the media industry. In addition to professional knowledge and practical skills, we are interested in equipping them with self-study skills, project work, career awareness, and self-accumulating what they need right from year 1 and 2," said Mr. Trung.

To effectively train media, Mr. Trung suggested that schools can link up with training networks such as press agencies and strong technology companies. Instead of investing in facilities, schools can link up with technology companies. The companies also support technology development for press agencies. This creates a tripod in training media journalism, better meeting the needs of learners.

Students choose the school because of... facilities

The Faculty of Creative Communication, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, surveyed students about the factors that influence their decision to choose to study at the faculty.

The results showed that 80.8% of students chose to study at the school because of its modern learning environment and adequate learning facilities. This shows that facilities and learning environment are the most important factors in attracting students.

Regarding the reasons for choosing to study at the faculty, the quality of the curriculum and its suitability to the industry are the factors that students choose the most, the facilities and learning environment ranked second, and career opportunities ranked third.
