SPAIN - A Polish male tourist had to cling tightly to a 300m high cliff while waiting for rescuers.
The accident happened on the afternoon of October 17, when the male tourist (identity unknown) was conquering the famous Blue Line in El Chorro. He suddenly broke his leg and had to cling to the cliff to save his life.
Because helicopters could not land on the rugged rocky terrain, rescuers had to parachute down and climb the mountain to reach the victims.
The climber had his injured leg fixed before being brought down. The difficult terrain forced the rescue team to perform a rope jump from a height of 150m to the ground, according to Euro Weekly News.
The victim was later taken to a local hospital for treatment.
El Chorro is one of Spain's most popular climbing spots, located next to the "death road" Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. The village is also a popular destination for cyclists, hikers and campers.
Despite being dubbed ' the most dangerous walking path in the world ', El Caminito del Rey is still one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
