Vietnam cycling team's billion-dollar fleet burned down in Thailand

Early this morning (February 6), Coach Mai Cong Hieu of the Vietnam road cycling team confirmed that the Vietnam road cycling team's fleet of about 30 specialized bicycles had been burned down. "On February 5, after the Vietnam road cycling team arrived in Bangkok, we were picked up by the organizing committee's car to Phitsanulok, about 350 km away, where the tournament took place. All of the Vietnam team's equipment, including racing bikes and spare parts, were loaded onto a truck of the organizing committee and taken to Phitsanulok. After about 7 hours of traveling to Phitsanulok, we received information that the vehicle carrying the Vietnam team's equipment had an accident on the road and caught fire, completely damaged," Coach Mai Cong Hieu shared.

Vietnam road cycling team had an unfortunate incident at the Asian Road Cycling Championship in Thailand.

The coaching staff of the Vietnam road cycling team also provided images of the burning truck and the burned bicycles, with only the frames remaining, believed to belong to the Vietnam road cycling team. According to the initial statistics of the coaching staff, the truck contained 30 specialized racing bicycles and spare parts such as wheels, helmets, shoes, etc. It is known that among them were very expensive specialized time trial bicycles such as the bicycles of racer Nguyen Tuan Vu and Nguyen Thi Thu Mai, which cost more than 250 million VND each. The remaining bicycles of the team, including the bicycle of racer Nguyen Thi That, cost more than 150 million VND.

Nguyen Tuan Vu's personal time trial bike worth more than 250 million VND and many other racing bikes of the Vietnam road cycling team caught fire in Thailand.

"The incident not only caused great material damage but also greatly affected the Vietnamese road cycling team because we almost certainly cannot compete because the tournament starts tomorrow. The students have spent a long time practicing, practicing throughout the Lunar New Year, but it is a pity to miss the opportunity to compete," a member of the coaching staff of the Vietnamese road cycling team shared.

Today in Thailand, a pre-tournament technical meeting was held, in which the unfortunate incident that happened to the Vietnamese road cycling team was resolved. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - Head of the Vietnamese delegation participating in the Asian tournament said that the organizing committee had contacted the Vietnamese delegation to inform them of the incident and said that it would be resolved today.
