In order to gradually change the method of small-scale production to commodity-oriented production associated with product consumption, in recent years, Nhan My commune (Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province) has focused on expanding the vegetable growing area with a variety of seasonal vegetables, tubers, and fruits.
Thanks to that, the commune has successfully built a concentrated vegetable growing model, contributing to increasing income for local people.
In the vegetable fields in My Da village (Nhan My commune, Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province), farmers have been working enthusiastically since early morning. The green beds of mustard greens, Malabar spinach, Malabar spinach, water spinach, etc. are waiting to be harvested.
Mrs. Tran Thi Loan, My Da village said: My family has been involved in vegetable growing for many years. Currently, the family grows about 2 sao, mainly vegetables of all kinds; vegetables for each season, continuously intensive cultivation without letting the land rest.
This season I grow Malabar spinach, Malabar spinach, amaranth... On average, my family earns about 5 - 6 million VND per month from selling vegetables.
Thanks to the loose and fertile soil, farmers in Nhan My commune can cultivate 4-5 crops per year. Along with the application of science and technology in cultivation, timely pest control has helped vegetables grow and develop well and be sold at high prices.
To increase productivity and quality in production, people here have focused on investing in installing irrigation systems. Special attention is paid to preventing and controlling pests and growing safe vegetables.
The vegetable growing model in Nhan My commune (Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province) helps each household earn an income of 5-6 million VND/month.
Mrs. Tran Thi Chanh's family in My Da village has more than 10 years of experience growing vegetables. According to Mrs. Chanh, before planting, she often improves the soil by mixing soil with composted manure, then making beds, making ditches... focusing on combining organic fertilizers with synthetic fertilizers to both improve the soil and improve the quality of vegetables.
Thanks to attending a training course on vegetable growing techniques, she has applied the correct technical process in planting and caring for them, so her family's vegetable garden of more than 700 square meters grows well, and each year the family earns about more than 60 million VND from various vegetables.
To expand the vegetable growing area, Nhan My commune has coordinated with the district's professional agencies to regularly organize training courses on vegetable growing and care techniques for farmers in the area, helping people grasp the technical requirements for planting, caring for, producing safe vegetables, and preventing pests and diseases for each type of vegetable.
Along with that, farmers also regularly learn through books and newspapers, knowledge shared from predecessors to improve techniques, methods of growing and caring for safe vegetables.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, President of the Farmers' Association of Nhan My commune, said: To help farmers develop their economy, the Party Committee and government of Nhan My commune have actively promoted, mobilized, and supported farmers to change their crop structure.
In June 2024, the Commune Farmers' Association established the "Vegetable Growing Professional Association" with 20 members, with a total agricultural land area of 1.4 hectares. Before its establishment, vegetable growers operated spontaneously, on small areas, and self-consumed their products, leading to unstable selling prices.
The establishment of the "Vegetable Growing Professional Association" of the Farmers' Association of Nhan My commune aims to help members unite, connect, support, learn, and exchange experiences in the process of producing agricultural products, contributing to increasing income and improving the lives of members.
Growing and developing vegetables not only meets market demand but also brings about very positive results, contributing significantly to increasing farmers' income.
In order for the vegetable growing area to develop further, in the coming time, Nhan My commune will continue to pay attention to and support farmers in terms of capital, techniques, improving farming skills as well as finding stable output for products, helping farmers feel secure in production, focusing on building the brand of the local vegetable growing area.
