TPO - In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2025, hundreds of households on Cau Dat Street and many central streets in Hai Phong City are miserable because the sidewalks have been turned upside down for renovation and paving, disrupting life and causing traffic jams during rush hour.

According to Tien Phong reporter on the evening of January 23, the construction unit renovating the sidewalk of Cau Dat street (Hai Phong) organized a tanker truck to pour concrete on the sidewalk, causing traffic congestion and making it difficult for vehicles to move for many hours.

For decades, Cau Dat Street has been famous for its many jewelry stores, moon cakes, and typical cuisine of the Port City. Although the route is only about 1km long, it is a bottleneck, most vehicles from main traffic routes such as Lach Tray, Ho Sen - To Hieu, Dong Khe - Le Loi all pass through Cau Dat Street to enter the Political - Administrative Center, the city theater, the central flower garden strip... Therefore, the traffic volume is very large.

Workers rolled concrete on a section of sidewalk on Cau Dat Street on the night of January 23 (ie December 24, Lunar New Year 2025).

Ms. PHL (over 60 years old, living on Cau Dat Street) said that nearly 2 months before Tet, the sidewalk on Cau Dat Street was turned upside down for construction, renovation, and paving. However, concrete was poured on a section of the street just before Tet, causing hardship for businesses.

According to her, for nearly 2 months now, the sidewalks have been turned upside down, materials are strewn across the road, and every time workers work and vehicles get stuck, the dust is so thick that food stores lose business. Clothing, jewelry, and cake businesses have closed because of the dust. Only a few sidewalk eateries are open to make a living.

Many households in the alley have difficulty moving because the sidewalk is under construction near Tet and materials are scattered everywhere.

On the sidewalk of Cau Dat street, many technical holes and drainage pipes are not fenced, posing a potential risk of accidents.

Also according to Tien Phong reporters, the sidewalks of many central streets such as Minh Khai, Me Linh, Ho Xuan Huong, Luong Khanh Thien, Cu Chinh Lan... were also simultaneously dug up by construction units near Tet to renovate and pave.

Materials were scattered everywhere, hundreds of shops on Luong Khanh Thien street were closed during the peak business season during Tet.
