On the afternoon of August 6, the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the Vietnam Information Security Association - Southern Branch (VNISA Southern) to hold a press conference to introduce the "Southern Region Information Security Conference and Exhibition 2024".
The Southern Information Security Conference and Exhibition 2024, held on August 23, at the GEM Center (8 Nguyen Binh Khiem, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), was jointly organized by the Department of Information Security - Ministry of Information and Communications, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Information Security Association - Southern Branch (VNISA South).
The event aims to provide information in the field of information technology and information security (IT) for agencies and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces that are implementing digital transformation applications.
The year 2024 will witness the remarkable development of information technology, with the explosion of artificial intelligence applications, Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G. However, along with new opportunities come unprecedented challenges in information security. Typically, cyber attacks become more sophisticated and complex, targeting critical infrastructure systems, personal data and business databases.

In the first half of 2024, a series of ransomware attacks targeted large enterprises in Vietnam, paralyzing systems, disrupting operations and business activities, causing significant financial losses. Many enterprises were forced to pay large ransoms to retrieve data and restore systems, losing the trust of customers and partners. The damage was not only economic but also had a long-term impact on the reputation and competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the international market.
The representative of the organizing committee said that this year's event will focus on hot issues such as: Safety in cashless transactions, protecting information technology systems serving the digital transformation of Ho Chi Minh City, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) supporting traditional solutions of information security, authentication in the context of hackers having smarter means... In addition, the event also has a series of activities on information security such as: Conference dedicated to leaders of state management agencies and enterprises, scientific seminar on information security, practical exercise of information security in Ho Chi Minh City, student competition with information security ASEAN 2024...
Mr. Ngo Vi Dong, Chairman of the Southern VNISA Association, said that when switching to operating on digital platforms and digital applications, cyber security threats are extremely dangerous and always present. Currently, shared systems of agencies and businesses in Vietnam are at risk of being attacked at any time. In particular, in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024, there were many ransomware attacks causing huge economic losses. Therefore, this event will share information on information security, the latest domestic and international solutions to prevent cybercrime.
According to a survey by the Southern VNISA Association, in 2024, many units and businesses outsourced information security monitoring services to optimize costs (increased from 20% to over 50%) compared to 2023. Backing up data to combat ransomware is an effective method, but up to 59% of organizations and businesses have not implemented or focused on backing up important data. The survey results also show that currently, up to 61% of organizations are using cybersecurity measures to reduce damage when attacked, 13% of units are interested but do not have enough information and resources to implement.
