Established on August 19, 2004 with 50 staff and reporters, many of whom were transferred from other press agencies, the VTC Digital Television Editorial Board was placed within the VTC Multimedia Corporation to apply and test digital technology in television broadcasting.
To date, after 20 years, VTC's "waves" have become familiar to millions of viewers. VTC's journey has marked an important turning point in the field of digital television in Vietnam.
From the initial 5 channels, the unit gradually increased to 15 channels and an online newspaper. Of which, VTC1 specializes in current news, VTC10 specializes in connecting overseas Vietnamese, VTC14 specializes in weather, and VTC16 specializes in agriculture.

In 2015, based on the planning of press management and development, VTC was transferred to VOV. The unit is now fully autonomous in the context of the declining advertising market, posing many challenges. According to Kantar Media's measurement in the period 2020-2024, the audience and audience share of VTC1 channel alone are always stable and in the top 5 in Hanoi.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Duc Thanh - Director of VTC Digital Television Station expressed that in 20 years of innovation, creativity and dedication - VTC Station has gone through many ups and downs and at each stage, it has left a historical mark contributing to the success and development of VTC Station today.
“The more proud we are of our achievements, the greater our responsibility. The future of television and digital media is fraught with difficulties and challenges, but it will certainly also open up new opportunities and advantages. We believe that the great values that the previous generation has built will be the foundation for VTC staff today to be more confident and determined to conquer further goals, and to fulfill their role as effective members of VTV, the national multimedia communications agency,” Mr. Tran Duc Thanh emphasized.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Do Tien Sy, Member of the Party Central Committee, Party Secretary, General Director of VOV said that the 20-year journey of VTC was a period of many challenges, changes and fluctuations, but the team of leaders, reporters and editors.
Faced with the requirements and challenges, the General Director of VOV requested that VTC continue to supplement and complete the Station Restructuring Project, accurately and fully assess the current situation of the Station in the current situation and context, especially closely following the provisions of the law, instructions of the Ministry of Finance and relevant ministries and branches so that the Station Restructuring Project is truly convincing and soon approved. Only when this bottleneck is resolved can VTC remove the remaining problems from the past, be freed, and have the necessary and sufficient conditions to move forward.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung mentioned the development history of VTC and affirmed that the establishment of VTC was a strong breakthrough in the development process of the television industry. VTC is currently one of the few press agencies in Vietnam implementing a fully autonomous mechanism. In the context of strong development of multimedia communications, it creates great challenges requiring constant innovation and creativity so that VTC can continue to be the leading media agency in the future.

I wish you all to write a new glorious page in the third decade of VTC,” Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.
