On January 18, in the UK, Oxford University and Tam Anh Research Institute (TAMRI) under Tam Anh Hospital System announced the signing of a cooperation agreement on scientific research exchange and medical training.
Tam Anh General Hospital system owns many modern and unique machines in Vietnam, including owning and mastering successful brain and spinal cord surgery techniques using Modus V Synaptive Robot applying artificial intelligence (AI). The hospital team has performed a record of more than 100 difficult and dangerous brain and spinal cord surgeries in 2024, reviving and bringing healthy lives to patients.
This is the first bilateral cooperation between Oxford University, a world-class university, and a research institute belonging to a prestigious general hospital system in Vietnam.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was witnessed by Mr. Do Minh Hung, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the UK; Mr. Mark Kent, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to Vietnam, many leading professors of Oxford University, leaders of Tam Anh Research Institute, Tam Anh General Hospital System.
Creating evidence-based healthcare solutions
The Memorandum of Understanding marks the official commitment to cooperation between Oxford University and Tam Anh Research Institute, Tam Anh General Hospital System, aiming to create medical solutions based on scientific evidence, contributing to shaping decisions in the field of health care, improving treatment effectiveness and bringing practical benefits to the community.
Representing the Oxford University faculty and leadership, Associate Professor Proochista Ariana - in charge of International Development at Oxford University - said the focus of cooperation will be on conducting basic research and developing solutions to address the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc.
"The University of Oxford values this partnership and the opportunity to learn from our Vietnamese colleagues. We aim to build a research culture and capacity, generate scientific evidence to support policy making and improve the health of the Vietnamese people.
I am very impressed with the research and innovation capacity of Tam Anh General Hospital System and look forward to contributing to the achievements that Tam Anh has achieved to create long-term and sustainable solutions to medical challenges in Vietnam," Associate Professor Proochista said at the ceremony.
Present here, Professor David A. Clifton of Oxford University, the world's leading expert on medical artificial intelligence (AI), expressed his hope for the opportunity to cooperate in developing medical AI between the UK and Vietnam to improve access to healthcare in both countries.
"Collaboration with Vietnamese healthcare companies will promote innovation in this field. Vietnam has the opportunity to build new systems, apply advanced AI technology, and lead the Southeast Asian region," Professor David A. Clifton shared.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Do Minh Hung said he supports international cooperation activities of Vietnamese scientific organizations with international partners, especially cooperation between Tam Anh Research Institute, Tam Anh General Hospital System and Oxford University - leading prestigious units in their fields in each country.
The Ambassador hopes that the cooperation between Tam Anh General Hospital System and Oxford University will bring more and better solutions for the goal of improving the quality of medical examination and treatment and health care for the Vietnamese people.
Representative of Tam Anh General Hospital System, Doctor Phuong Le Tri, Executive Director of Tam Anh Research Institute, emphasized that the development goal of Tam Anh medical system is to approach the world's modern, orthodox scientific trends to improve the effectiveness of medical examination and treatment and patient safety, and provide good care for community health.
Therefore, Tam Anh pays special attention to accessing scientific research on new medical solutions, enhancing cooperation and exchange with major medical centers in the world such as Oxford University.

Important step forward of Tam Anh General Hospital System
According to the memorandum, the strategic cooperation between Oxford University and the Tam Anh Research Institute will focus on developing specialized training courses and fostering skills for researchers and medical experts, helping them achieve success in scientific research on medical examination and treatment and health care.
In addition, the two sides will promote exchange activities, internships and participation in specialized seminars. The expert and student exchange program will promote the process of mutual learning, creating conditions for individuals to experience new research environments, share professional knowledge and build sustainable cooperation networks.
Oxford University and the British Heart Institute are also committed to sharing knowledge and non-confidential specialist materials to keep up to date with the latest medical advances, improve common understanding and promote groundbreaking research ideas.
According to Dr. Phuong Le Tri, the cooperation with Oxford University is an important step in the development strategy of Tam Anh General Hospital System and Tam Anh Research Institute, because the combination of international experience and domestic research capacity will promote the development of Vietnamese medicine.
