Many universities give each lecturer a Tet bonus of 10-55 million VND, unchanged or increased compared to last year, despite many difficulties.
The National Economics University said it would keep the bonus level stable compared to previous years. According to Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, principal, each staff member, lecturer and employee will receive a bonus of VND25 million, regardless of job position and ranking. The total Tet bonus for 1,100 people is about VND27 billion.
"This amount of money is due to the school's savings from activities during the year, including the surplus from reducing administrative staff," said Mr. Chuong, adding that previously the National Economics University had more than 400 administrative staff, but now only half that number thanks to the application of information technology.
In addition to the Tet bonus, employees at the school receive a 13th month salary. Currently, the school's lecturers' salaries range from 15-30 million VND per month, administrative staff from 13-20 million, and specialists from 9-19 million VND.
Thus, if adding up the Tet bonus and the 13th month salary, an officer or employee at the National Economics University receives the highest amount of about 55 million VND, the lowest amount of 35 million VND.

Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Van Chau, Acting Principal of the University of Electricity , said that the school's staff and lecturers will receive two amounts. One is a Tet bonus according to internal spending regulations at the rate of 5 million VND. The other is an additional bonus, taken from welfare money - 30 million VND for those who have worked for 12 months of the year. This amount is an increase of 5 million VND compared to last year.
"This is to encourage and motivate workers to contribute to the school's development," said Mr. Chau.
The bonus increase, according to Mr. Chau, is also the result of good implementation of the spending savings plan, in the difficult context due to the impact of Covid-19 in previous years.
At the University of Mining and Geology , Associate Professor Dr. Le Xuan Thanh, head of the Department of Political and Student Affairs, said that each staff and lecturer was awarded 5 million VND.
In addition, the school pays the 13th month salary, based on the coefficient and salary level of each staff member. According to Mr. Thanh, the highest 13th month salary a person receives is about 16 million VND, the minimum is 4-5 million.
In addition to the two payments, staff and lecturers of the School of Mining and Geology receive about 9-21 million VND.
As for the University of Transport , Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong, Vice Principal, said that the school does not call it a "Tet bonus" but distributes welfare money on this occasion. Each staff and lecturer receives more than 20 million VND, higher than last year.
The Forestry University did not provide detailed information on the Tet bonus amount, but said that each lecturer this year received a bonus 1.7 times higher than last year.
According to Decree 60/2021 of the Government, the financial results of the year are allocated by schools into four funds, including Career Development (minimum 25%), Income Supplement, Rewards and Welfare; Other Funds.
Schools have ensured that all or part of their regular expenses are allocated 1.5-3 months of salary and wages in the year to the Reward and Welfare Fund. Therefore, schools often use this fund to support staff, employees and lecturers with one or two months of income during the Lunar New Year.
In internal spending regulations, many schools clearly stipulate bonuses for holidays and Tet, for example 3-5 million VND for Tet; but some schools base their decisions on their financial capacity each year.
Compared to some schools in Ho Chi Minh City, the Tet bonus of public universities in Hanoi is equivalent. For example, at the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, each lecturer receives an average of 15-30 million VND. Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade gives an equal Tet bonus of 25 million VND per person.
