Hue University has just concluded the case of the doctoral thesis of the head of the scientific research department of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center being accused of plagiarism.

On November 22, according to information obtained by Tuoi Tre Online , Hue University has just issued a conclusion on the case of the doctoral thesis of Ms. LTAH (head of scientific research department of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center) being accused of plagiarism.
The content of the accusation of plagiarism in the doctoral thesis is correct.
Accordingly, after receiving the denunciation, the director of Hue University directed the establishment of a team to verify the content related to two contents: plagiarism and misuse of historical data in Ms. H.'s doctoral thesis.
Through verification, the content of Ms. H's doctoral thesis has many paragraphs and ideas that use similar ideas and paragraphs to published works of other authors without the author citing the source.
Accordingly, the plagiarism error was determined to be 12 pages (based on the provisions of Clause 6, Article 3 of Decision No. 1860/QD-DHH dated November 30, 2023 of the Director of Hue University regulating academic integrity in master's and doctoral training at Hue University).
Regarding the plagiarism in Ms. H's doctoral thesis, Hue University concluded that the accusation was correct.
Regarding the historical error, through verification, Hue University concluded that the accusation was partly correct.
Regarding the content of the articles used by the thesis author, the content assessment upon publication is the responsibility of the journal's Editorial Board. The training institution (University of Science, Hue University - PV) only verifies whether the content of the article is related or not to the content of the doctoral thesis.
Based on the above contents, Hue University said it will recommend that the thesis author seriously accept and edit the contents pointed out in the conclusion of the denunciation and submit it for deposit according to current regulations.
The University of Science, Hue University, in coordination with the Department of Training and Student Affairs of Hue University, monitored and confirmed the revision of Ms. LTAH's thesis according to the inspection conclusion.
The Board of Directors of Hue University also recommended to the Minister of Education and Training to establish a Council to evaluate the content of Ms. H's doctoral thesis to resolve the matter according to authority.
Whistleblower: Will continue to petition
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , the person who reported plagiarism and misuse of historical data in Ms. LTAH's doctoral thesis said he was not satisfied with the above accusation's conclusion.
Accordingly, this person said that the information denouncing plagiarism in the doctoral thesis was more than 30 pages, but the conclusion only mentioned 12 pages.
In addition, the whistleblower also did not agree with Hue University's request for Ms. LTAH to edit her thesis and requested that this thesis be revoked.
"In the thesis author's explanation, the failure to cite the source from the book Hue Style by author Tran Duc Anh Son was due to forgetting and calling Mr. Son to apologize is unacceptable.
This has legitimized the mistake as forgetting to cite. I will continue to make recommendations regarding these contents," the whistleblower said.
Why not revoke plagiarized doctoral dissertation?
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, a leader of Hue University said that the unit has done its best to verify the information that Ms. LTAH's doctoral thesis was accused of plagiarism.
Accordingly, Hue University has invited leading experts and professors both inside and outside the unit to participate in the team verifying the information denouncing the doctoral thesis to ensure the utmost impartiality.
"The conclusions that Hue University has drawn are based on information verified by this team of experts. Therefore, the above conclusions ensure the most objective and impartial factors," said the leader of Hue University.
Explaining why Hue University did not revoke the plagiarized doctoral thesis mentioned above even though it had concluded that plagiarism existed, this leader said that the authority to revoke doctoral theses belongs to the Ministry of Education and Training, so in the conclusion, Hue University only recommended handling according to authority.
