Provincial National Assembly delegates question the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh answers questions.

At the beginning of the question-and-answer session, the National Assembly questioned a group of issues in the field of natural resources and environment regarding the management, exploitation and protection of national marine resources; the implementation of policies and laws on water security; solutions to prevent and combat drought, saltwater intrusion, water shortage, depletion and pollution; solutions to research, explore, exploit and use mineral resources as construction materials and rare resources and minerals.

Questioning, delegate Quàng Thị Nguyệt of the provincial National Assembly Delegation stated: “Investing in the construction of water storage works is one of the priority solutions in the 2023 Law on Water Resources to ensure proactive storage, regulation, and distribution of water resources, meeting the requirements of water use for people's lives and socio-economic development. Could you please tell us about the implementation of policies to attract investment in the construction of water storage works in the coming time?”

Answering the question of delegate Quàng Thị Nguyệt, Minister Đặng Quốc Khánh said that recently we have paid great attention to the construction of irrigation reservoirs to store water. The State builds irrigation reservoirs with public investment and attracts investment in hydropower projects from socialized sources. According to the Minister, attracting investment in hydropower projects is a form of socializing water storage, promoting very good efficiency. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reviewed areas that need to be supplemented or places that are eligible to build dams.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment said that, in addition to building a system of dams, it is necessary to pay attention to investing in an irrigation canal system to effectively use the stored water resources, ensuring good regulation and coordination of water resources. Building multi-purpose irrigation reservoirs, both storing water for production and daily life, and generating electricity... For the Northern, Central and Central Highlands regions, continue to promote attracting investment in hydropower projects on the basis of ensuring water storage and environmental protection, forest protection and ecosystem protection. In the coming time, implementing the Law on Water Resources 2023, there will be water source scenarios, river basin management organizations, regulation and coordination to ensure effective use of water resources for daily life, production and economic development.
