This is the situation of some candidates sent to the online consultation program organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the afternoon of August 20 with the topic 'Is there still a chance for additional admission?'.
Want to reconsider admission to a school near home even though I have been admitted to a school in Ho Chi Minh City
Candidate Nguyen Ha Phuong (Hue) said she registered for 3 choices, 2 schools in Ho Chi Minh City and Duy Tan University. "I was admitted to the computer science major in my second choice in Ho Chi Minh City. However, my family suddenly had an emergency so I changed my mind and wanted to go to school closer to home so it would be more convenient. So now can I drop out of the school in Ho Chi Minh City to apply for Duy Tan University?", Ha Phuong asked.
Candidates admitted during the admission procedure stage
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that this has been the situation of many candidates over the past years. "For example, in 2023, 15% of candidates who were admitted in the first round but did not confirm their enrollment for many reasons. It could be because the school is far from home, or the tuition fee is beyond the family's ability... so the candidates want to change. Candidates have the right to refuse to enroll for additional admission, but they must consider it carefully."
According to Dr. Hai, the Ministry of Education and Training requires candidates to confirm their admission on the system from August 19 to 5:00 p.m. on August 27. After this time, if they do not confirm their admission, it will be considered as a refusal of admission.
"If for family reasons, you no longer want to study at the school you were admitted to, you will not confirm your admission. Then you will consider enrolling in the Computer Science major at Duy Tan University, accepting applications until September 5. However, please note that the admission score in the additional round will be greater than or equal to the standard score of the first round. If your score is only equal to the standard score of the first round, you should consider and apply to several schools. If your score is higher than the standard score of the first round, your chance of admission is higher."
Why did the university entrance exam scores for block C increase so much?
It is known that the computer science major of Duy Tan University has a standard score of 16 based on graduation exam scores, 18 based on high school transcripts, 650 based on the results of the competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University and 85 based on the results of Hanoi National University.
There is still a chance to change majors.
Tran Hai Tu (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) fell into a situation where he initially liked the international relations major at the University of Economics and Finance in Ho Chi Minh City but was afraid of not being accepted so he did not register. After the admission score was announced, he found out that he had an extra 0.25 points. "Now I have been accepted to the international economics major at the university. Should I reconsider the international relations major?"
Master Pham Doan Nguyen, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, said that if a candidate has been admitted but is not satisfied, he or she can refuse to enroll.
University representatives answer questions about additional admissions
"Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance is considering adding many majors, including international relations, so you can reapply. If your score is higher than the first round's standard score, you have a chance to be admitted, but you should increase your academic transcript score to increase your chances of being admitted. However, you should also consider whether to reapply because international economics also has knowledge close to international relations," Master Nguyen noted.
Meanwhile, Duong Thu Ha (Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) wondered: "I was admitted early to the economic law major at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, however, because I saw that my exam score was high, I applied with my exam score to some other schools and did not apply for the major that I had been admitted early to at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. In the end, I did not get admitted based on my exam score because the admission score unexpectedly increased so much. Now, what should I do to be admitted to the economic law major at Nguyen Tat Thanh University?"
Master Truong Quang Tri, Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, informed that the school is currently reserving about 500 quotas for additional admission, so candidates can completely apply for the economic law major in 3 ways: considering high school exam scores, academic transcript scores and capacity assessment.
"Accordingly, the score for receiving the application for the graduation exam is 15, the average score of the transcript is 6, the capacity assessment score is 550 for Ho Chi Minh City National University and 70 for Hanoi National University. Those who pass the supplementary admission round will enjoy all the same benefits as those who passed the first round with the same learning environment, tuition fees, scholarships, degrees...," said Master Tri.
