Feast your eyes on the "surfing" of the sea in the West

(NLDO) – Thousands of people gathered in the largest coastal town in the West to watch athletes race rafts at high speed.

On November 21, in Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, the 2024 Ca Mau province expanded boat racing festival took place.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Cong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ca Mau province, said that this year's boat racing festival has 59 athletes from provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and local racing teams participating.

"Through the festival, the organizers hope to create a healthy playground for athletes who are passionate about this sport to have the opportunity to exchange and learn from each other. This is also a way to maintain and preserve the traditional lifestyle and culture of the people in the Mekong Delta in general and Ca Mau province in particular," Mr. Cong emphasized.

From very early in the morning, thousands of people gathered in Song Doc town to watch the athletes compete. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (56 years old; residing in Ca Mau city, Ca Mau province) said that she took her two children with her for dozens of kilometers to the largest coastal town in the West to watch the competitions.

"Seeing the boats moving at high speed, everyone was excited and cheered for the athletes," Ms. Thuy said excitedly.

After many hours of competition, the first and second prizes went to athletes from Long An province; the third and fourth prizes went to athletes from Ca Mau province. Among them, racer Phan Duy Linh won the first prize with the following prizes: cup, flag, 50 million VND....
