Mr. Cameron, 57 years old, served as British Prime Minister from 2010-2016. He resigned after the Brexit referendum result, when Britain voted to leave the European Union (EU).

Before his surprise return to British politics, he spent the past seven years writing memoirs and dabbling in business, including working at Greensill Capital, a financial firm.

Prime Minister Sunak's office said on November 13 that King Charles had agreed to give Mr. Cameron a seat in the British House of Commons, allowing him to return to the cabinet as a minister even though he is no longer an elected MP.

"We are facing a series of difficult international challenges, including the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East," Mr. Cameron said on social network X on November 13.

“At this moment of profound global change, it is more important than ever for our nation to stand with our allies, strengthen our partnerships, and ensure our voices are heard,” he wrote.

Also in this cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Sunak fired Home Secretary Suella Braverman and appointed James Cleverly - previously Foreign Secretary - to replace her.

Before losing her job, Ms. Braverman caused controversy for an article published without permission, accusing the police of bias against pro-Palestinian protesters.

Mr Sunak’s decision to bring Mr Cameron back is likely to please Conservative moderates who have been shocked by Ms Braverman’s right-wing comments on issues such as immigration, policing and homelessness.

At the same time, the decision could also cause anger among the Conservative Party's right-wing members, especially because of Mr Cameron's connection to the Brexit referendum defeat.
