On the afternoon of March 22, after nearly 2 days of trial and deliberation, the People's Court of Hau Giang province sentenced Nguyen Huu Thao (47 years old), former Deputy Director of Nguyen Kim Hau Giang Shopping Center (TTMS) to 10 years in prison; Hoang Van Hai (39 years old, Head of the Warehouse Department of TTMS Nguyen Kim Hau Giang), to 3 years of suspended imprisonment, both for violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences.

According to the indictment, from January to September 2018, Thao, taking advantage of his position and authority, directed Hai to export a large quantity of goods including televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, mobile phones and air conditioners. These products were sold to Do Tuan Phong, Head of Sales Department of Nguyen Kim Kien Giang Retail, but without issuing value-added invoices or documents, causing a loss of over VND1.6 billion to Nguyen Kim Joint Stock Company.
In addition, during this time, Thao also directed her subordinates to export 49 air conditioners without invoices or documents and directly signed receipts with the warehouse keeper for these goods and then sold them to 2 customers in Ho Chi Minh City for over 430 million VND. Thao used this money to settle the payment for 27 products that she had taken out of the company's warehouse in violation of regulations and sold them to Do Tuan Phong.
In December 2018, the Kien Giang Provincial Police Department arrested Do Tuan Phong to investigate the act of abusing trust to appropriate property, then changed the charge to embezzlement. In July 2022, Phong was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Hoang Van Hai knew that Thao directed the goods to be taken out of the warehouse without invoices or documents to be sold to others and kept outside the accounting books, which was against the company's regulations. However, Hai still helped Thao, causing a total loss of more than 2 billion VND to Nguyen Kim Joint Stock Company.
In addition to the prison sentence, the People's Court of Hau Giang province ordered defendant Nguyen Huu Thao to compensate Nguyen Kim Joint Stock Company for more than 1.4 billion VND.
