After years of fighting on the southwestern border battlefield, veteran Hoang Kim Dong (Tan Dan commune, Duc Tho district) has spent 36 years participating in local movements.

During his 36 years of dedication, Mr. Hoang Kim Hong held many key positions in the commune's political system such as: Secretary of the Youth Union, cultural officer, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of the old Duc Long commune. In 2019, he voluntarily wrote a resignation letter, creating favorable conditions for the locality in the process of merging the administrative units of Duc Long and Duc Lap communes.
CCB Hoang Kim Dong said: "I always keep in mind that as long as I am healthy, I can compete in labor production. During my work, along with completing assigned tasks, I always maintain and develop the garden economy. On an area of 1,000 m2 of garden land, I have planned systematically with many types of fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental plants, bringing high economic value."

The garden of CCB Hoang Kim Dong's family was recognized as a model garden in 2021, generating an annual income of 40 - 50 million VND. "Developing the economy from the garden first provides income, then beautifies the landscape and the countryside. The family itself also benefits from many values of the garden" - CCB Hoang Kim Dong added.

The model garden of CCB Hoang Kim Dong also raises free-range chickens, bringing high economic efficiency.
To accompany members in developing garden economy, the Tan Dan Commune Veterans Association proactively coordinates with departments, branches, and organizations to organize training, transfer science and technology, and apply advanced production technology to build model gardens, build product brands, and promote and consume products. In addition, each year, the Tan Dan Commune Veterans Association has signed a trust with the Social Policy Bank to lend hundreds of members capital to invest in production and establish on-site savings groups to help poor members.
The Association also assigned veterans with experience in production and business to directly participate in supporting and helping, and at the same time providing human and material resources, creating momentum for poor and near-poor veterans to develop their economy and have a stable life. In 2023 alone, the Association helped 2 member families escape poverty.
