Not 'The Richest Musician in Vietnam'

Nguyen Van Chung told VietNamNet that he is not the 'richest musician' or 'musician with the highest income from copyright' as rumored.

Currently, in addition to the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection (VCPMC), there are a number of other units and legal entities that have the function of collecting royalties. He is in the top 3-5 musicians with the highest income from royalties at VCPMC each quarter.

However, his huge musical fortune helps Nguyen Van Chung live comfortably without needing any other source of income. Each quarter he earns 300-500 million VND, each year about 1.2-2 billion VND from copyright.

To date, Mother's Diary is still the work that brings him the highest royalties. In addition to collecting royalties from VCPMC, he occasionally signs some private exploitation contracts.

For example, in 2015, Casa Musica Music Production Center (Germany) paid 5,000 USD (about 113 million VND) to include the song Mother's Diary in the Anthology of Best Dance Songs.

Besides, Nguyen Van Chung also writes advertising music, arranges music, directs music, films game shows, talks shows...

The musician is proud of being able to live with his passion for art. With his existing foundation, he is almost pressure-free, focusing only on composing.

Nguyen Van Chung's current goal is to develop children's music. Having spent 8 years composing 300 songs, he is implementing a number of projects to bring these songs deeply into the lives of children.

Nguyen Van Chung pursues children's music because of his two children, Suri and Pu. He often thinks about his children and students when writing music, and the children are his first listeners.

He wrote the song "Small Family, Big Happiness" to express his wish that his children would always be the happiest in their home; or the song "Mom, Do You Know " was written for children to sing to their mothers on special occasions.

Suri Kim Anh - Nguyen Van Chung's adopted daughter - especially loves her father's compositions, often listening and singing along. Her father used to let her participate in entertainment programs to satisfy her passion for singing.

The guitar and music are where musicians take refuge in their souls.

Live for yourself more after divorce

Nguyen Van Chung's life now revolves around working, taking care of and raising his children, and visiting his mother. When his children are asleep, he spends time on his own, reading books, watching movies, and writing music.

Occasionally he plays soccer with his colleagues until 9-10pm, on weekends he goes boxing, rock climbing, and learns voice acting...

"My life has been very fun lately, always comfortable and happy. After a tiring day of work and exercise, I go home and sleep whenever I want," the musician said.

Nguyen Van Chung and his ex-wife - Kim Thanh, maintain a moderate relationship, together watching Pu grow up. He writes music for her to sing to his mother, and proactively informs her about her child.

Nguyen Van Chung lives for himself more when he is single.

Ms. Thanh once shared with VietNamNet that she is always grateful for what she received from Nguyen Van Chung during and after the divorce. She accepts the blame for the broken marriage and always hopes that her ex-husband will live happily.

Currently, Nguyen Van Chung puts career and family first and love is 'no longer important'.

After the divorce, he spent many years dealing with the problems that arose and lingered over assets, debts, children... and has only recently stabilized his life. He marked his new journey by buying a house and bringing his children home.

The musician admitted that he occasionally met and had feelings for a few girls, but they always ended up as friends. Sometimes getting to know someone new reminded him of his old heartache.

Nguyen Van Chung said: "You are right when you say I am a 'bird afraid of a curved branch'. The past has just settled down in me, I don't want to be disturbed so I am not ready or excited about love."

On the other hand, Nguyen Van Chung determined not to love for fun but to find a soulmate, a long-term companion in life based on life views, attitudes, behavior, views on work, family...

Regarding his experience from a broken marriage, the musician said: "I'm afraid I can't share enough songs, but the focus is on compatible views on life and compatible levels."

"I simply choose carefully and calculate more carefully because I'm afraid of making another mistake. I don't avoid it and believe that someone suitable for me will appear," Nguyen Van Chung added.
