Meritorious Artist Bao Quoc recently had the opportunity to meet with artists Phi Phung and Phuong Dung. During the conversation, the male artist shared about his life in the US as well as his health at the age of 74.

The male artist said he had just undergone many liver surgeries : "I had to have 3 major surgeries, 4 or 5 laparoscopic surgeries, the most serious one was to have half of my liver removed. That time when I got home, I felt tired for 3 or 4 days, but after two weeks of other surgeries, I went out to exercise normally. I had surgery at a modern hospital, they gave me anesthesia for three hours, after the surgery I woke up and went home, everything was fine."

After many surgeries, his health has stabilized. Meritorious Artist Bao Quoc confided that at this age, despite many illnesses, he still has to live optimistically.

The male artist still maintains his youthful appearance and style thanks to his daily exercise routine. The male artist shared: "Every day, I usually wake up to exercise for about 15, 20 minutes and then walk around the neighborhood for about an hour. My wife doesn't go with me because she's afraid of the sun, so I just exercise at home. Normally, I work all day, plant trees, garden, clean the house, and cook."

After many years of hard work, artist Bao Quoc is currently residing in the US, living with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.

Sharing about his life abroad, Meritorious Artist Bao Quoc confided that since moving here, he has been loved by his neighbors in the neighborhood, many of whom recognize him as a famous comedian. " Here, there are a few Americans who, when they know me, use Google to translate Vietnamese, write poems and send them over. They are extremely lovely."

Meritorious Artist Bao Quoc said that he sometimes accepts to perform on weekends to ease his longing for the profession. However, he does not accept every show because he is getting older. "I am selective, I do not accept every show. To perform, I have to travel far, at 3 or 4 am I carry my suitcase to the airport, finish the performance and fly back, it is very hard", Bao Quoc added. However, his love for Cai Luong and the stage is still burning, so Bao Quoc said " whenever I see Cai Luong, I perform, I perform every play".

Occasionally, he and his wife also travel far away. The male artist shared that as long as he is able to travel, he must travel, only the elderly couple who travel together also go. He and his wife hope to have the opportunity to return home to visit family and friends after a long time apart.

Bao Quoc was born in 1949 and grew up in a family with a tradition of reformed opera. His father was artist Nam Nghia and his mother was Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tho - also known as "Mr. Tho" of the Thanh Minh reformed opera troupe - one of the most famous troupes in the South.

Since childhood, Bao Quoc had the opportunity to be exposed to the stage and was taught and passed on experience by talented artists of the golden generation of reformed opera. In the 1980s and 1990s, Bao Quoc was a famous leading actor on the reformed opera stage, loved by audiences.

Coming from a background in cải lương, the male artist turned to comedy. Bảo Quốc explained: “I proactively switched to comedy when I realized that I was not good at singing, and my singing was not strong enough to play sympathetic roles.” His career continued to reap many brilliant successes. He was considered “the number one comedian in the South”, winning many awards in the field of comedy.

Besides his career, he is also admired for his happy marriage with his wife Thu Thuy. Up to now, the artist couple has been together for 55 years, having 4 children together. At the age of 74, Bao Quoc enjoys a peaceful life, mainly spending time with his family.
