On July 31, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council (Upper House) of Russia Konstantin Kosachev affirmed that the US could aggravate the situation in Ukraine in 2024 when the election takes place due to voting issues.

Commenting on the impact of the US presidential election on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Mr. Kosachev emphasized: “This is a very dangerous situation, because the Americans are not afraid to use foreign policy in the competition between parties. If one of the parties feels the need to escalate the situation in Ukraine to gain more votes in the election, it will do so.”
According to this official, as the US presidential election culminates in 2024, the risk of escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine “is obvious”.
Mr. Kosachev said that military conflicts would become more serious and the involvement of heavy weapons could increase the possibility of nuclear use by both sides.
“Fortunately, we have not reached that threshold. However, the risk is very high,” he said.
In addition, he added, Washington persuaded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to abandon negotiations with Russia last year and currently the parties have no plans to return to the negotiating path.
