Raspberry chrysanthemums 'smile early', gardeners worry about not having enough to sell for Tet

The chrysanthemums in a garden in Cam Le district bloom earlier than other flowers. The garden owner said that this year, all gardens in the South have the same problem of chrysanthemums blooming early, and when they arrived in Da Nang, they had already started to bloom. "There are still more than 2 weeks until Tet, but now the chrysanthemums are blooming bright yellow, so buyers are very picky. Chrysanthemum is a familiar flower during Tet holiday because of its bright color and also symbolizes reunion, prosperity and wealth. Although it is sold cheaply, from 115,000 - 140,000 VND per pot, very few people choose chrysanthemum that blooms early.

Gardens with early blooming chrysanthemums have found that these flowers are very suitable for selling to agencies, cafes, and restaurants to display before Tet.

Meanwhile, another wholesaler of chrysanthemums in Hai Chau district has more than 10,000 pots of chrysanthemums that have bloomed yellow. "Now I can't hold back any longer, so I have to sell them cheaply, starting at 115,000 VND/pot. Chrysanthemums have double petals, blooming all the way to the edge and then to the buds. Except for the pots that have all bloomed, if there are still buds, we can still celebrate Tet," the owner of the warehouse explained.

Not only are the garden owners worried about the early blooming flowers, they are also worried that they won't have any to sell near Tet because the gardeners have reported that they have run out of flowers. "Last year I imported more than 100 pots, this year I only got 40 pots because the gardens reported that all the flowers were damaged. The erratic weather has made the flowers unable to last. From now until Tet, there won't be any more to buy," said Mai Trieu Vy, a gardener in Cam Le district.

Ms. Yen Loan, owner of a wholesale chrysanthemum garden at the end of Le Thanh Nghi Street (Hai Chau District) said she had imported 30,000 pots to sell to her customers. Currently, she has not accepted any more orders from her wholesale customers due to lack of stock. "Now, before Tet, I have imported 2,000 more pots, but it is still not enough to sell," she worried.

According to gardeners, near Tet, the price of chrysanthemums can increase to around 200,000 VND/pot. Although in short supply, the price is similar to last year because this year the economy is difficult, people are tightening their spending so they have to sell at a reasonable price.
