On the morning of December 22, at Minh Chau island commune (Van Don district), Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board held a ceremony to announce the decision and receive the Certificate of recognition of the title of Vietnam Heritage Tree for 156 trees growing in Bai Tu Long National Park.
Bai Tu Long National Park has a total area of 15,783 hectares with 6 typical ecosystems, home to 2,421 species of organisms. In particular, 106 species have been recorded in the World Red Book and Vietnam Red Book.
In Decisions No. 443/QD-HMTg, No. 444/QD-HMTg dated December 16, 2024, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment recognized: The population of 150 Myrtle trees on Minh Chau Island, 3 Red-barked Myrtle trees in Sub-area 201 of Ba Mun Island, 3 Myrtle trees in Sub-area 201 of Mang Island, Ha Nam as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
These are trees that meet the following criteria: They are ancient trees, tall and majestic, with unique shapes, or have special value in terms of one of the following factors: science, history, culture, aesthetics... Recognition of Heritage Trees aims to contribute to raising awareness of tree protection and biodiversity conservation in the community; at the same time, contributing to tourism potential and promoting the image of the locality.
Previously, Quang Ninh province had 162 trees recognized as Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment. This is the result of efforts to implement Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU dated October 30, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee on building and promoting cultural values and human strength of Quang Ninh to become an endogenous resource and driving force for rapid and sustainable development.
