Announcement of graduation exam scores in Ho Chi Minh City, how to calculate graduation scores?

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just officially announced the score distribution of subjects in the 2024 high school graduation exam.

In the foreign language exam (mainly English), Ho Chi Minh City continued to maintain its leading position nationwide for 8 consecutive years with 22,980 candidates scoring 8 points or higher, accounting for 32.17%. Of the 71,442 candidates taking the English exam (excluding independent candidates), 58,262 candidates scored an average score (5 points) or higher, accounting for 81.56%. The city's average English score was 6.72 points, with only 1 failing score in English; while the average score for this exam nationwide was 5.51.

According to the regulations on high school graduation recognition of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates who are eligible to take the exam, are not subject to disciplinary action to cancel their exam results, all exams and component subjects of the combined exam are above 1 point on a 10-point scale and have a graduation score of 5 or higher are recognized as high school graduates.

According to this regulation, the failing score for the 2024 high school graduation exam is 1 point or less. Candidates must take the graduation exam with 3 compulsory exams (math, literature, foreign language) and 1 combined exam. The combined exam includes the social science combination (history, geography, civic education) and the natural science combination (physics, chemistry, biology) depending on the candidate's choice.

To avoid failing, candidates need to have all exams and all subjects in the combined exam score above 1 point.

To be recognized as a graduate, candidates must achieve a total graduation score of 5 or higher with the condition of no failing scores.

The formula for calculating high school graduation scores is as follows:

For high school students:

Graduation score (Grade 1) = {(Total score of 4 high school graduation exams + Total incentive points)/4 x 7 + Average score of the whole year of grade 12 x 3}/10 + Priority points.

In which: Total score of 4 exams includes: math + literature + English + average score of combined exam;

+ Average score (GPA) for the entire 12th grade year: Calculated by the formula (GPA of semester I + GPA of semester II × 2)/3;

+ Priority points include: Priority points for subjects and priority points for areas.

- For students studying the continuing education program at high school level, the formula for calculating GPA is as follows:

Average score = {(Total score of 3 high school graduation exams/3 + total incentive score/4) x 7 + average score of the whole year of grade 12 x 3}/10 + priority points.

In which, the total score of 3 exams includes: Math + Literature + average score of the combined exam.

Candidates who take all the subjects, with no subject scoring 1 or less and a total score of 5 or more will be eligible for graduation recognition.
