According to the list published by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, there are 120 hospitals assessed for quality, including: 51 public hospitals, 63 non-public hospitals, 4 medical centers with beds, 2 hospitals in the sector (Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital and Post Office General Hospital).
Of these, 41 hospitals achieved a good quality level or higher (average quality score above 4.0 on a scale of 5.0), accounting for 1/3 of the total number of evaluated facilities, an increase of 10.8% compared to 2022.
However, there are still 2 facilities with below average quality (average quality score below 2.5).
There are 2 hospitals that did not participate in the assessment: Gia Dinh General Hospital (due to less than 12 months of operation) and Transport Hospital (due to the Department of Health, Ministry of Transport, assessing hospital quality in 2023).
The assessment shows that the average score in 2023 is 3.71 points, an increase of 1.1% compared to 2022 (3.67 points).
Of which, the average quality score of Ho Chi Minh City's hospital sector is 4.2 points, an increase of 2.7% compared to 2022 (4.09 points). The average quality score for district hospitals, health centers with inpatient beds is 3.56 points, an increase of 1.1% compared to 2022 (3.52 points). The average quality score for the private sector is 3.48 points, a slight decrease compared to 2022 (3.49 points).
There are 41/120 (34.2%) hospitals with a quality score of 4 or higher, 71/120 (59.2%) hospitals with a quality score of 3-4, and the remaining 8/120 (6.7%) hospitals with a score of 2-3.
There are 5 hospitals leading the hospital quality score rankings in 2023, including: 2 specialized obstetrics hospitals (Hung Vuong Hospital, Tu Du Hospital), 2 general hospitals (People's Hospital 115, People's Gia Dinh Hospital) and 1 specialized pediatric hospital (Children's Hospital 1).
In addition, there are some units with an average score of 2-3 (at the bottom of the rankings), including: District 10 Medical Center, Cao Thang Eye Hospital, Kim Hospital Korean Plastic Surgery, AVA Van Lang Plastic Surgery, Korean - Sao Han Plastic Surgery, etc.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, in general, the results of hospital quality inspection and assessment in 2023 have many improvements. There are 12 hospitals with an average score of over 4.5 (on a scale of 5.0), an increase of 38% compared to 2022, 29 hospitals with an average score of 4 - 4.5 and 8 hospitals with an average score of below 3, a decrease of 11% compared to 2022. The group of private hospitals has an average score increase of 1.1% compared to 2022, the group of city hospitals increased by 2.4% compared to 2022 and the group of district and county hospitals increased by 0.9% compared to 2022.
In addition to the obvious quality improvements and advantages of the hospitals through the above inspection, the Department of Health noted a number of issues that require investment and development by hospitals, such as nutrition and dietetics activities at specialized hospitals, scientific research activities at some private specialized hospitals, and solutions for applying information technology in management and professional activities.
