From June to September, Diep Son Island attracts a lot of tourists. Video: Duc Tung Travel

Diep Son Island (Van Phong Bay, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa) is located more than 60km from Nha Trang city center, equivalent to 70 - 80 minutes by car.

In recent years, Diep Son Island has become an attractive destination for tourists thanks to its wild beauty, clear blue sea water, and fine white sand beaches, and is considered the “Vietnamese version of Maldives”. Looking down from above, Diep Son Island looks like a reclining Buddha, so people also call it the Reclining Buddha Island.

Here there is a rare white sand road, sometimes hidden, sometimes appearing in the middle of the vast ocean, called “Diep Son Waterway”. The road connects Hon Bip, Hon Qua and Hon O. On sunny days, the sea water is clear, visitors can also admire schools of fish swimming or coral.

According to Mr. Duc Tung Travel, a person with many years of experience in organizing tours to Diep Son Island, June to September every year is the peak tourist season. The sand road is the highlight, attracting tourists to the island. This road is more than 1km long, with some sections only more than 1m wide, creating a feeling of "thrill" for tourists when experiencing it.

“Usually, from the 1st to the 15th of the lunar month, the road appears after 12:30 until evening, when the tide is high. At the end of the month, the road appears later, around 16:30,” said Mr. Tung.

“If you come to Diep Son at the end of the lunar month, it will not be easy for tourists to admire this sand road. Because, if you go on a day tour, the group must leave the island and return to the port before 5 p.m.,” he added. From October to December every year is the rainy and stormy season, so it is not the ideal time to visit the island.

When the tide is high, the road is submerged under the sea. At night, if the weather is favorable, visitors can admire the scene of this road glowing thanks to the seaweed below.

From Nha Trang, visitors can choose a day tour of Diep Son Island or a 2-day, 1-night tour. With a full day tour, visitors will be picked up from the city center to Van Gia port, then take a speedboat to Diep Son. The speedboat ride takes about 15 minutes. Here, visitors will stroll around the island, have lunch, paddle SUP, swim, experience the sand road... and return before 5:00 p.m. The tour costs about 550,000 VND/person.

With the 2-day-1-night tour, visitors will have more time to experience walking on the sand road, watching the sunset and sunrise on the island, and visiting neighboring islands. The tour cost is 1.1 million VND/person. The number of homestays here is quite small, but thanks to that, it brings a sense of peace to visitors.

Tourists can also combine their schedule to visit Phu Yen and Diep Son Island.

Currently, there are not many tourism operators in Diep Son. The operators that are running tours to Diep Son Island focus on protecting the landscape and preserving the island's pristine beauty. The island's population is only about 100 households, living off the sea for many generations, and still preserves many interesting traditional cultural and labor features.

In the Northern region, a sand road “growing” in the middle of the sea also appeared in Thanh Lan, Co To, Quang Ninh. In the middle of the clear blue sea water, the road emerged with a shape that is likened to a giant humpback whale. The road is about 300m long and about 20m wide. The sand on the road is yellow, smooth and gradually slopes to both sides.
