Anant Ambani - son of India's richest man Mukesh Ambani - married his longtime girlfriend Radhika Merchant after months of celebrations. The wedding was dubbed "the event of the year" by the media.
According to The Guardian 's estimate, the cost of the parties leading up to the wedding could be as high as $600 million.
Among them, the outfit of Merchant - daughter of "pharmaceutical tycoon" Viren and Shaila Merchant - was also an important factor contributing to building a lavish image for the wedding. The bride chose a number of outfits that combined elegance and tradition on her happy day.
Radhika Merchant started her wedding day in a pastel chandelier-inspired lehenga by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, which she wore to her sangeet (traditional pre-wedding ceremony). The design was hand-embroidered with Swarovski crystals and paired with an off-shoulder crystal blouse (Photo: @signe_vilstrup).
At the post-sangeet party, Merchant wore a sparkling sari (the most traditional and popular Indian costume) designed by Manish Malhotra. This outfit received many compliments from the online community. The bride was commented to look sexier and more youthful (Photo: @signe_vilstrup).
For the haldi ceremony (held before the main wedding ceremony where guests rub turmeric mixed with oil and water on the bride and groom’s bodies), Merchant wore a yellow lehenga by Anamika Khanna. According to Vogue, the highlight of the design was the shawl made from more than 90 marigold flowers (Photo: @rheakapoor).
Merchant officially married Anant Ambani in a haute couture outfit also designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The panetar (traditional Gujarati wedding attire, usually only in red and white) was accented with a 5m-long veil and a 2m-long intricately embroidered shawl. The bride accessorized with jewelry that her grandmother, mother and sister had also worn at their weddings (Photo: @luismonteirophotography).
