3 Vietnamese runners dominated the podium in the women's 42km event of the 2024 HaNoi International Marathon, in which Nguyen Thi Oanh broke the national record for the 42km distance.
On the morning of September 22, runner Nguyen Thi Oanh excelled over 177 competitors to win the championship at the 2024 HaNoi International Marathon, women's 42km race. Le Thi Tuyet and Pham Thi Hong Le ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. With a completion time of 2 hours 44 minutes 20 seconds, Nguyen Thi Oanh also broke the national record of Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa (2 hours 44 minutes 52 seconds) set at the Hong Kong Marathon 8 months ago.

This is an admirable achievement for Nguyen Thi Oanh, because she had to compete in wet and slippery conditions due to the rain in Hanoi. 13 out of 178 athletes competing in the women's 42km event did not complete the race. In addition to Nguyen Thi Oanh, Pham Thi Hong Le's efforts are also commendable, when she had a bad start and had to chase runner Jane Wanjiru Muriuki (Kenya). At the distance from 22.3km to 38.3km, Hong Le accelerated to 3rd place and maintained the distance with the athletes behind. In the end, 3 Vietnamese runners dominated the podium in the women's marathon category of the 2024 HaNoi International Marathon.

Also at the 42km distance, but in the men's category, the national champion Nguyen Van Lai could not maintain his advantage despite a good start. He finished 4th with a total time of 2 hours 33 minutes 29 seconds, not enough for Van Lai to win a medal. All 3 first-place athletes were from Kenya, of which Edwin Kiptoo finished first with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes 32 seconds. The remaining 2 athletes were Japhet Rono (2nd place) and S. K Chirchir (3rd place). In the summer of 2024, Kiptoo defeated "mutant" Nguyen Van Long to defend the Quy Nhon Marathon championship, with a total time of 2 hours 34 minutes. Besides Nguyen Thi Oanh and Edwin Kiptoo, athletes who also won gold medals at the HaNoi International Marathon 2024 include: Dereje Alemu Miko (21km men), Chepngetich Langat (21km women), Le Van Thao (10km men), Nguyen Hanh (10km women), Nguyen Van Bay (5km), Phan Thi Huyen (5km women).
