According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Thuan, during the Lunar New Year 2025, due to active preparation since the end of 2024, the domestic water supply situation of most water supply works (CTCN) in the province is quite stable. Thereby, basically meeting the water needs of the people, there are no major technical incidents that cause prolonged water supply interruptions over a wide area, seriously affecting the lives and activities of the people during the Tet holiday.
One of the outstanding results is the implementation of water supply from the Dai Ninh irrigation and hydropower project, Ham Thuan hydropower plant to provide enough raw water for urban water plants and concentrated water supply projects in rural areas. From there, maintaining clean water production activities to ensure reaching the designed capacity, providing clean water for people's daily life, not allowing a shortage of domestic water before, during and after the Lunar New Year of At Ty in 2025.
Specifically, the results of water supply for daily life during the Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty in 2025 with a total water supply of 1,168,667 m3 (reaching 98.3% of the plan). In particular, the situation of domestic water supply at industrial parks managed by the Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, the supply flow at industrial parks increased gradually during the period before Tet from January 24 (December 25) to 53,060 m3/day and night, until the end of January 28 (December 29) reaching the highest level with 59,072 m3/day and night, exceeding 5% of the total design capacity and gradually decreasing during the Tet holidays. The amount of water supplied in the days before the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025 will increase by an average of 15 - 25% compared to normal days and increase by an average of 5 - 10% compared to the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024.
However, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also said that some industrial companies, due to lack of investment capital to upgrade and expand, have been operating beyond their design capacity on normal days (some industrial companies have been operating beyond 150 - 200% of their design capacity). Therefore, during Tet, they cannot meet the demand, leading to a situation where water pressure is sometimes low or locally interrupted in the days before Tet (especially from December 25 to 29). In addition, although the industrial companies have forecasted the situation in advance, they have proactively divided the water supply routes in rotation, but some residential areas still suffer from local water shortages during peak hours.
In addition to prioritizing people's daily life, water resources for production are also focused on. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Acting Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, regarding the water supply situation for production during the 2025 Lunar New Year, most of the Irrigation Works Exploitation Branches and Irrigation Works Exploitation Stations in the districts, La Gi town, and Phan Thiet city are actively on duty and arranging staff and workers to carry out water supply work according to plan. Thereby, in order to ensure production, there will be no shortage of irrigation water for perennial plants and winter-spring crops in 2024 - 2025. Up to this point, the irrigation area for rice and winter-spring crops - belonging to the irrigation system of the whole province - has reached 29,337 hectares/plan of 32,815 hectares (reaching 89.4%). In addition, the irrigation area for dragon fruit and fruit trees has reached 16,400 hectares, reaching 100% of the plan.
For example, at the La Gi - Ham Tan Irrigation Branch, to ensure adequate water supply for daily life and production in the 2024 - 2025 winter-spring crop in La Gi and Ham Tan towns and to avoid drought, the unit plans to supply 12,000 m3/day and night to the Tan Tien BOT Water Plant from January 20 to February 7. At the same time, water will be supplied to the Tan Tien commune irrigation area of 169 hectares of rice at the same time. The Song Dinh 3 reservoir project alone will supply 13,000 m3/day and night to the La Gi Water Plant; at the same time, water will be supplied to nearly 400 hectares of rice...
According to the assessment of the provincial agricultural sector, compared to the same period last year, the current water level in irrigation reservoirs in the province is higher, thanks to late rain. Thereby, basically meeting the water needs of people for daily life and production during Tet and the coming dry months. However, to ensure saving of water for daily life and production in the dry season, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reminded localities and specialized units to strengthen measures to store and distribute water resources in the irrigation system reasonably, especially prioritizing water for daily life for people.
