Viettel Club changes name, bringing The Cong back to V.League

On November 21, the decision to change the name of Viettel Club to The Cong Viettel will be officially announced. The Ministry of National Defense agreed with this proposal and the name The Cong will return to the Vietnam National Championship. Previously, Viettel Club also had a period of being called The Cong Viettel before being called Viettel. In 2009, the V.League participation was transferred to Thanh Hoa and the name The Cong was temporarily absent.

In fact, this is not the first time that the proposal to change the name of Viettel FC has appeared. The Cong is still a brand that brings many regrets and nostalgia to football fans in the capital. Generations of talented players such as Truong Tan Buu, Nguyen Trong Giap, Nguyen The Anh, Nguyen Cao Cuong, Tran Van Khanh, Nguyen Hong Son... have delighted generations of fans at Hang Day Stadium.

The army football team won the 1999 Vietnam Super Cup, the 1981-1982, 1982-1983, 1987, 1990, 1998 national championship. Besides, the team also achieved many other achievements in domestic professional football tournaments.

Viettel Club leaders hope that when the name The Cong returns, the stands at Hang Day Stadium will be filled in every match of this team.

Viettel FC currently owns many stars such as Nguyen Hoang Duc, Bui Tien Dung, Nguyen Duc Chien, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Khuat Van Khang... Coach Thach Bao Khanh and his team aim to reach the National Cup final and have a position in the top 3 in the V.League.

Viettel strives to win medals in 3 out of 5 youth tournaments with the participation of youth groups from U13 to U21. Among them, the U19 and U21 teams are assigned to reach the finals of the season.

"In the 2023/2024 season, Viettel Sports Center will also become Viettel Sports One Member Co., Ltd. This is also an opportunity for us to transform and become more professional. Always set high goals to strive for. That is not only a task but also an expectation of the army and the group for each Viettel player ," said Mr. Tao Duc Thang - Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group at the departure ceremony.
