To date, Quang Tri province has 33 power plants and 151 rooftop solar power systems in operation with a total capacity of 1,119.5 MW. It is expected that by 2025, there will be 4 more wind power plants with a total capacity of 156 MW and 7 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 93 MW in commercial operation. The whole province currently has 128 km of 220 kV power lines and 2 220 kV transformer stations in Dong Ha city and Lao Bao town (Huong Hoa).

Regarding the investment in the construction of the power grid in Quang Tri in the period of 2021-2023, EVNCPC has invested 467 billion VND to complete the construction of 4 110 kV power grid projects with a scale of 55.5 km and 65 MVA; Quang Tri Power Company (PC Quang Tri) has invested in the construction of medium and low voltage power grids in the whole province with a total value of 421 billion VND. In 2024, the estimated investment value for the construction of power projects in Quang Tri is 131.8 billion VND. Therefore, according to the plan to implement the Power Plan VIII, it is expected that in the period of 2023-2030, Quang Tri province will develop about 4,405 MW from 3 thermal power plants and renewable energy sources. Currently, PC Quang Tri is managing and operating 335.21 km of 110kV lines, 8 110kV transformer stations, 2,160.3 km of medium voltage lines, 2,357 load transformer stations, and 3,948 km of low voltage lines.

Thereby ensuring the supply of electricity for daily life and production for 217,143 electricity customers with increasingly improved quality and services, especially the power source to meet production and business activities in industrial parks, clusters, economic zones and large projects in the province. The average growth rate of commercial electricity output in the province in the period of 2021-2023 is 6.93%/year; commercial electricity in 2023 reached 830 million kWh; in the first 4 months of 2024, the cumulative commercial electricity reached 257.2 million kWh, an increase of 9.94% over the same period in 2023.

However, according to the forecast of the Central Hydrometeorological Center on the current extreme weather situation, it is expected that in the dry months of 2024, the national electricity consumption demand will increase, causing many difficulties for the operation, exploitation and supply of electricity across the country, including Quang Tri province.

Therefore, EVN recommends that localities need to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people, businesses, agencies and offices to apply solutions to use electricity economically and effectively according to the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023; provinces and cities need to establish interdisciplinary inspection teams on the electricity usage of customer groups according to Directive 20/CT-TTg; protect the safety of power grid works; strengthen extensive propaganda among the people about the responsibility to protect the safety of high-voltage power grid works.

Issue more stringent sanctions for violations of high-voltage grid safety; direct departments, branches, sectors and localities to coordinate with electricity sector units in planning the implementation of Power Plan VIII, support the conversion of land use purposes, compensation for site clearance, and speed up investment approval procedures to deploy power grid projects on schedule.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien affirmed that Quang Tri province is always interested in coordinating with EVN to speed up related legal procedures and accelerate site clearance so that investors can implement power grid projects in the province.

The province assigned specific tasks to relevant departments, branches and localities to closely coordinate with the Department of Planning and Investment to urgently develop a plan to implement the 8th Power Plan; assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to proactively advise on measures to continue organizing the implementation of electricity saving and grid safety in the province to achieve efficiency in electricity operation and supply.

In particular, focusing on inspection, supervision, propaganda, and mobilization of people, agencies, and businesses to practice electricity saving, and having plans to ensure electricity supply for daily life and production in the locality. In addition, Quang Tri province hopes that EVN and EVNCPC will continue to support Quang Tri province in developing electricity, especially in maximizing the exploitation of renewable energy sources.

Removing obstacles in implementing thermal power plant projects to continuously improve and upgrade power grid infrastructure, increase power supply capacity, meet socio-economic development needs and ensure local defense and security.
