Ho Chi Minh City has issued 4,150 military enlistment orders.
On the morning of February 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Military Service Council held its second meeting under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Council.
Reporting on preparations for military enlistment in 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Cao Van Phat, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ho Chi Minh City Command, said that 4,150 enlistment orders have been issued so far, including 3,956 official orders and 194 reserve orders.
For the recruitment of young people to join the People's Police, Ho Chi Minh City Police has prepared and ensured the delivery of 950 quotas and reserved 45 cases. Implementing the policy of supporting eye surgery costs for young people joining the army, local police have organized surgeries for 209 cases, accounting for 22% of the total quota for police service.
According to the assessment of the Ho Chi Minh City Military Service Council, the quality of military recruitment this year is higher than in 2023 in terms of health standards, professional qualifications and number of party members.
Lieutenant Colonel Cao Van Phat added that the Party committees and authorities at all levels pay attention to the military's rear policies such as setting up savings books, giving gifts to citizens who have passed the exam, and supporting families with citizens who are in difficulty joining the army. During the recent Lunar New Year, the districts visited and gave Tet gifts with a total cost of more than 25.3 billion VND, on average each citizen joining the army received money and gifts worth about 6.4 million VND.
Building a quality team from retired youth
Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police, said that of the 950 young people joining the People's Police, most of them are young people who have graduated from universities and colleges. This shows that the propaganda work has been well implemented and the recruitment of high-quality sources has been high. Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam requested local police to prepare plans to ensure security, order and absolute safety at military handover points and military recruitment camps.
Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that it is necessary to have a plan to promote the force of demobilized young people to work in the public sector.
Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, assessed that this year there are positive signs that the source of recruits is of high quality. However, localities must absolutely not be subjective but must do a good job of coordinating between units in military camp activities, military transfer and reception, and after military transfer.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that it is necessary to calculate the input and output for young people discharged from the army after completing their military service right now to promote this force.
"This must be the core force at the grassroots level, participating in a number of agencies and sectors. The Ho Chi Minh City Command needs to calculate and propose to the Ministry of National Defense and the military region the recruitment rate with university degrees, after 2 years of training in the army, this force can be promoted in the long term," Mr. Phan Van Mai commented and said that if we do it persistently and carefully, we will have a quality team from retired youth.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee analyzed that of the 4,900 young men who will join the army in 2024, if only 5% is taken, it will be about 200 people, and after 5 years there will be 1,000 people. This force will be sent to 312 wards, communes and towns, each locality will have about 2-3 people. "If we prepare well, these discharged young men becoming local leaders is also a very good thing," said Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai.
