National Assembly Chairman sends condolences over railway accident in India

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has sent a message of condolences to Indian leaders over the train accident in Odisha state that occurred on June 2, killing and injuring many people.

Upon hearing the news of the railway accident in Odisha state, Republic of India, which occurred on June 2, 2023, killing and injuring many people, on June 3, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent a message of condolences to Vice President and Chairman of the Indian Senate Jagdeep Dhankhar; Speaker of the Indian House of Representatives Om Birla.

Earlier, President Vo Van Thuong sent a message of condolences to President Droupadi Murmu; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a message of condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a message of condolences to Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The incident occurred at 7:00 p.m. local time on June 2, when the Howrah Superfast Express, traveling from Bangalore to Howrah, West Bengal, collided with the Coromandel Express, traveling from Kolkata to Chennai.

About 10 to 12 cars of one train derailed and fell onto the adjacent track. A second passenger train traveling in the opposite direction collided with the train, causing three cars to derail.

The death toll from a train accident in the eastern Indian state of Odisha has risen to 288 people killed and more than 850 injured, officials said.

This is the deadliest train accident in more than 20 years in India.

On June 4, Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the cause and those responsible for the tragic train accident in Odisha state have been identified.

In a television interview, Minister Ashwini said the cause of the accident was a change in the electronic interlocking process. This technical term refers to a complex signalling system that coordinates the movement of trains on the tracks to prevent them from colliding with each other./.
