President Vo Van Thuong receives Lao Deputy Minister of National Defense

On the afternoon of September 26, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People's Army, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

Welcoming Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong and the Lao People's Army delegation to visit and work in Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that Vietnam always remembers Laos' support and assistance in the past struggle for independence and national unification, as well as in the current national construction; at the same time, it always attaches importance to consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. The President believes that the visit will be a great success, contributing to deepening the great friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Director of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People's Army Thongloi Silivong expressed his honor and pleasure to meet President Vo Van Thuong. Informing the President, Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong said: The General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army has had many specific, practical and dedicated activities and programs to help the Lao People's Army in general and the General Department of Politics of the Lao People's Army and some localities of Laos in particular. In particular, over the past many years, it has helped the Lao People's Army train cadres; thereby continuing to affirm and deepen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.

The Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People's Army said that the Lao People's Army has been focusing on educating the young generation and soldiers of Laos about the great friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos so that future generations can continue to foster and build the friendship, relationship and cooperation between the two countries.

Appreciating the good, concrete results, solidarity and friendship in the cooperation between the General Department of Politics of the two countries' armies in recent times, President Vo Van Thuong affirmed: The relationship between Vietnam and Laos is a great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation in all fields. In particular, defense cooperation is a very important field and has received great attention, focus and favorable conditions from the two Parties and States.

The President stated that the effective and substantive cooperation achievements between the Ministry of National Defense in general and the General Department of Politics of the two countries’ armies will contribute to deepening and further developing the Vietnam-Laos relationship and cooperation in the coming time; especially in training cooperation activities for military officers.

The President also acknowledged and highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries' armies in building villages along the national border, contributing to building a peaceful and friendly border between the two countries. President Vo Van Thuong hoped that the two sides would continue to promote and improve the above contents in the coming time.

The President stressed that the relationship between the two countries continues to develop positively with many meetings, contacts and exchanges being held regularly, especially high-level delegation exchanges. This will create favorable conditions for information exchange and deepen the bilateral relationship in a more substantive and comprehensive manner.
