President To Lam chairs the third meeting of the Steering Committee to review 40 years of innovation.

On the morning of June 12, at the Presidential Palace, the Steering Committee for Summarizing a number of theoretical and practical issues on the socialist-oriented renovation process in Vietnam over the past 40 years held its third meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Politburo members: President To Lam; Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyen Xuan Thang.

Also attending were Politburo members: Party Central Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission Tran Cam Tu; Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac; Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Organization Commission Le Minh Hung; Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Commission Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Party Central Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien; Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Dinh Tien Dung; Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Nen; Party Central Committee Secretaries, Party Central Committee members who are members of the Steering Committee.

At the meeting, the Steering Committee heard the announcement of the Politburo's decision on the consolidation and addition of members to the Steering Committee. Accordingly, Comrade To Lam, Politburo member and President, holds the position of Head of the Committee; Comrade Luong Cuong, Politburo member and Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, holds the position of Permanent Deputy Head of the Steering Committee.

In addition, the Politburo decided to add the following Party Central Committee members: Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, as members of the Steering Committee.

Speaking at the meeting, President To Lam emphasized that theoretical issues drawn from the summary of 40 years of Doi Moi must go first, pave the way, and show the way for our entire Party, people, and army to overcome all difficulties and challenges, make the most of opportunities and advantages, turn dangers into opportunities, clear up bottlenecks in thinking and perception, clarify breakthroughs in development theory, provide a scientific basis for planning development policies and strategies; arouse aspirations and promote the will and determination of the entire nation to strive to achieve the country's goals of 100 years under the leadership of the Party, 100 years of founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The President requested the Steering Committee to focus on assessing the progress and content of the work in the proposed Summary Plan; clearly state creative and effective ways that need to be promoted; difficult and stuck issues that need to be focused on resolving; at the same time, closely follow the program and plan, identify tasks that need to continue to be implemented, propose a roadmap and methods in line with the spirit of urgency, seriousness and quality; mobilize the combined strength of departments, ministries, branches and localities, promote the intelligence of experts, scientists, managers and people of all walks of life nationwide in the summary process, focusing on building a draft Summary Report and distilling the summary results to contribute to the development of documents for the 14th National Party Congress.

On behalf of the Steering Committee, comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang reported on the implementation of the task of summarizing 40 years of innovation, evaluating the content, progress and results achieved so far. Accordingly, the summarizing groups have proactively implemented the assigned tasks, the basic tasks closely following the plan approved by the Steering Committee. The members of the Steering Committee have contributed many enthusiastic, practical, specific and valuable opinions to the construction of the Summary Report, as well as the direction, tasks and activities in the coming time.

According to the report at the meeting, in addition to the meetings of the Steering Committee, the Standing Editorial Board and members of the Editorial Board, the Review Groups organized many seminars and discussions, giving opinions on each specific work content to ensure the best progress and quality of the review tasks according to the plan issued by the Steering Committee.

Concluding the meeting, highly appreciating the responsible, creative and effective working spirit of the members of the Steering Committee for the review and related departments, President To Lam said that the review of a number of theoretical and practical issues on the socialist-oriented renovation process over the past 40 years in Vietnam is a very important task for the renovation, construction and development of the country along the socialist path. The review helps to clarify lessons learned, issues of important theoretical and practical significance, contributing to perfecting the theory of the renovation policy, building a scientific and practical foundation to help the Party formulate correct policies and guidelines, ensuring the success of the renovation, construction, development and protection of the Fatherland in the new period.

To ensure the quality and progress of the work of summarizing 40 years of renovation, the President suggested continuing to thoroughly grasp the principles and requirements: Persistently and creatively applying and developing Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, persistently pursuing the goal of national independence associated with socialism, closely following the viewpoints and contents of the Party's Political Platform, and complying with the provisions of the Constitution. Researching, consulting, selectively absorbing, appropriately and creatively applying the theoretical achievements and practical experiences of countries around the world, especially advanced countries and countries with similarities to Vietnam, in developing and perfecting theories on national construction and defense.

According to the President, it is necessary to inherit the results of the 20-year and 30-year summaries of renovation, and the process of implementing the Platform for national construction during the transition period to socialism; closely follow the resolutions of Party congresses, especially recent congresses and the resolutions of the Central Executive Committees of the 12th and 13th terms; closely follow the guiding ideology of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the conclusion at the 9th Central Conference and in recent books, articles and speeches.

The President requested that it is necessary to continue to mobilize the greatest participation to promote the intelligence of scientists, experts, experienced leaders and managers, and people from all walks of life, to contribute to the summary work.

Recalling the statement of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, "Our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as today", the President affirmed that this is the result of the past 40 years of renovation, of which the last 10 years are very important. In particular, the decisive factor to achieve this result is that our Party always develops awareness, theoretical thinking, sets out correct and appropriate policies and guidelines in leading the State and society on the basis of closely following reality, being loyal to and creatively applying Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought.
