On the first working day, the 12th Congress of the My Tho City Labor Union (Tien Giang Province) for the 2023-2028 term carried out many important tasks. The Congress elected the Executive Committee of the My Tho City Labor Federation (MLF) for the 12th term, consisting of 18 members; Comrade Pham Thi Thu Ha was re-elected as President of the City Labor Federation. On this occasion, Ap Bac Newspaper had an interview with Comrade Pham Thi Thu Ha, President of the 12th My Tho City Labor Federation, about the direction of activities of the City Labor Union in the new term.

* Reporter (PV): Congratulations to you for being elected by the congress to continue holding the position of Chairman of the My Tho City Labor Federation for the 2023 - 2028 term. As the head of the organization protecting the rights and interests of workers, civil servants, and laborers in the city, what do you predict about the opportunities and challenges affecting the City Labor Union's activities in the coming time?

* Comrade Pham Thi Thu Ha: The Resolution of the 12th Party Congress of My Tho City has set out the general goal for the years 2020 - 2025 as "Synchronous investment to develop the economy towards gradually increasing the proportion of the service sector; prioritizing the mobilization of all resources for the development of trade, tourism, and urban areas. Promoting administrative procedure reform; improving the quality of cadres, civil servants and the effectiveness and efficiency of the government; improving the material and spiritual life of the people. Strengthening the building of a clean and strong Party organization and political system; building My Tho City worthy of being a class I urban area, the center of the province and the region".

Thoroughly grasping the Party's guiding viewpoints and aiming at the above goal, the 12th Congress of the My Tho City Trade Union took place in a context with many advantages, but also many difficulties and challenges. Therefore, it requires the Trade Union organization to focus on improving the quality of union member development, focusing on the grassroots level, continuing to strongly innovate the content and methods of trade union activities, performing well the representative function, taking care of protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees, promoting the voluntary nature of union members, affirming and clarifying the differences in the interests of union members when joining the Trade Union organization.

* Reporter: With the challenges and requirements, what action goals has the congress set for the new term, comrade?

* Comrade Pham Thi Thu Ha: The 12th Congress of the My Tho City Trade Union, term 2023 - 2028, with the motto "Innovation - Democracy - Solidarity - Development". The Congress has set the action goal for the new term as building a strong Vietnam Trade Union organization, performing well its functions and tasks in the new situation, being the political and social foundation of the Party and State; playing a good role as a bridge, maintaining close ties between the Party and State with the working class and laborers; contributing to building a modern and strong working class, being the pioneer force in carrying out the task of rapid and sustainable development of the country.

Strive by the end of the term, towards the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union, affirming the position of the Vietnam Trade Union as the center of gathering and uniting the working class and laborers, making worthy contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

With the set goal, the congress set a target of developing at least 3,000 union members by the end of the term, establishing grassroots unions in all enterprises with 20 or more employees and meeting the prescribed conditions; 100% of union officials are trained and fostered in union work; 100% of enterprises with union organizations sign collective labor agreements and 100% of collective labor agreements record provisions more favorable to employees than those prescribed by law.

100% of State-owned grassroots trade unions participate with heads of agencies, units, and enterprise boards of directors, and over 80% of non-State-owned grassroots trade unions participate with employers in promulgating and implementing grassroots democracy regulations; strive for 100% of union members' cases in need of consultation and litigation regarding their legitimate and legal rights and interests to have union representatives participate or receive legal support from the union; establish mass women's committees in 100% of grassroots trade unions according to the provisions of the Charter of Vietnam Trade Unions; 85% or more of female employees achieve the title "Good at public work, good at housework".

* Reporter: Could you tell us, to achieve the set goals, what tasks and solutions has the congress agreed on for the City Trade Union's work in the next 5 years?

* Comrade Pham Thi Thu Ha: The Congress has identified breakthroughs in the work of the new term, which is to focus resources on performing the task of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members, workers, and labor collectives at the grassroots level, focusing on dialogue, negotiation, and signing of Collective Labor Agreements, especially negotiations on wages and working conditions.

Building a team of Trade Union officials with intelligence, courage, enthusiasm, responsibility, and prestige, focusing on the Chairmen of Trade Unions at non-state enterprises. Innovating the methods of Trade Union operations, focusing on applying information technology in organizing and managing activities.

The main tasks and solutions that the My Tho City Trade Union will focus on implementing in the next 5 years include performing the tasks of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests, contributing to improving the quality of life of union members and workers; performing well the tasks of social supervision and criticism; improving the effectiveness of propaganda and mobilization work; innovating patriotic emulation movements, promoting the role of union members and workers in uniting to build and protect the Fatherland; and building a strong Trade Union organization.

Pay attention to attracting workers to join the Trade Union organization at the enterprise; participate in building a strong modern working class; participate in building a clean and strong Party, State, and political system; improve the quality of women's work, contribute to caring for and building a team of female workers in the new situation. Build financial resources to perform well the functions and tasks of the Trade Union organization and innovate the methods of Trade Union operation to adapt to the new situation.
