According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, by December 31, 2023, African swine fever in the province had been completely controlled and eradicated. During this outbreak, the whole province had 344 households in 74 villages of 28 communes, wards and towns in 7 districts, towns and cities with African swine fever. The total number of sick, dead and buried pigs was 2,222; the total weight destroyed was 102,997 kg.
Because the African swine fever virus has a complex transmission route, the environment after the epidemic is still polluted and most of the pigs in the province have not been vaccinated against the disease; on the other hand, the trading and transportation of pigs and pork products has increased sharply to serve the food demand at the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year; the weather is favorable for the pathogen to develop, so the risk of ASF recurrence is very high.
To proactively prevent outbreaks from recurring and spreading, the Provincial People's Committee requires the synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and control African swine fever in the province, especially during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin - 2024. Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities regularly monitor and grasp the epidemic situation; strictly manage pig herds in the area to each farm and each household; proactively detect early and thoroughly handle outbreaks when they recur.
Prepare adequate means, tools, chemicals, and funds to proactively prevent the disease from recurring with the motto of "early detection, timely, thorough, and technical treatment" to prevent widespread spread.
Propaganda for livestock farmers to implement the 5 no's: "no hiding epidemics; no buying, selling, or transporting sick pigs; no slaughtering sick or dead pigs; no dumping dead pigs into the environment; no using untreated leftover food as pig feed", and at the same time seriously declare livestock farming activities according to regulations.
Relevant departments, agencies and sectors need to coordinate closely, proactively and synchronously deploy drastic and effective solutions to inspect, control and prevent the possible recurrence of African swine fever.
In particular, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned to advise the Provincial People's Committee to complete the Provincial Steering Committee for Animal Disease Prevention and Control and assign specific responsibilities to each member to direct, guide, and monitor localities in implementing effective measures to prevent and control African swine fever.
