Celebrate Tet in luxury with Chinese-style copper-wrapped bonsai: Some trees cost tens of millions

Every Tet holiday, Vietnamese people eagerly search for unique decorative items that symbolize luck and prosperity. This year, a new trend is attracting the attention of many art lovers: copper-rolled bonsai.

Copper-wrapped bonsai, also known as copper-aluminum wire bonsai, is the art of shaping bonsai by bending and wrapping flexible metal wires.

Each bronze bonsai, depending on the difficulty, is completed in 3 - 4 days or 10 - 15 days.

Mr. Do Dang Tuan, an artisan from Canh Nau village, Hanoi, after studying and working in China, brought the art of copper-rolled bonsai to Vietnam. With creativity and ingenuity, he combines copper-aluminum wire with precious woods such as green cypress, pine, agarwood, and red sandalwood, creating unique and sophisticated works.

The main material that creates the unique beauty of copper-wrapped bonsai is copper-aluminum wire, imported from China and processed with modern electrostatic painting technology. These wires are not only durable but also diverse in color, bringing a brilliant, luxurious appearance.

To complete a work, the artist usually takes from 3 to 15 days, depending on the complexity of the design. In particular, each bonsai pot is equipped with a lighting system underneath, creating a shimmering effect, attracting the eye at night.

Although it has only appeared in Vietnam in the past few years, copper-rolled bonsai has quickly won the hearts of art lovers because of its novelty and sophistication. At the spring flower market in front of My Dinh National Stadium, Mr. Do Dang Tuan's booth is always crowded with visitors. The special thing is that each product has a 5-year warranty - if the paint peels off, customers will be able to exchange it for a new product. Mr. Tuan shared that in China, the hobby of copper-rolled bonsai has developed with large-scale craft villages specializing in the production of raw materials. However, in Vietnam, this art is still quite new.

Bringing this art back to Vietnam, Mr. Tuan has created his own style, combining aluminum wire with precious woods such as green cypress, pine, agarwood, red sandalwood, etc. to create sophisticated and luxurious works. Not only is he the one who directly comes up with the idea and crafts the tree trunk, he also coordinates with skilled carpenters in Canh Nau village to complete the flower rolling and woodworking stages, creating job opportunities for many people.

In terms of price, copper bonsai rolls are also diverse to suit many customers. Small products, used to decorate tea tables, cost from 1 to 2 million VND. Meanwhile, larger works, placed on pedestals in the living room, cost from 3 million VND or more. For bonsai pots designed specifically on request, 1m or more high, the price can be up to tens of millions of VND.
