Vietnam U.17 is preparing to assemble the squad for the 2025 AFC U.17 qualifiers. Among them, coach Cristiano Roland has called up a very strange name: Maxwell James Peereboom.
Maxwell James Peereboom was born in 2008 in Ho Chi Minh City, has Vietnamese nationality and currently lives with his parents in Australia. Maxwell began his football career in local youth teams in Queensland before joining the Gold Coast Knights youth team, one of the top clubs in the National Premier Leagues Queensland (Queensland's highest league and part of the Australian national championship).
U.17 Vietnam prepares for Asian qualifying round
The 1.84m tall player plays in the center-back position, is considered to have good ball control and creativity in playing style. However, because he is a young player, information about Maxwell is still limited. That is also the reason why coach Roland wants to directly test and evaluate this player's ability in the upcoming training session, before making a decision on the U.17 Vietnam squad to participate in the 2025 U.17 Asian qualifiers.
Besides the notable presence of Maxwell James Peereboom, Coach Roland Cristiano also gave opportunities to some new players such as goalkeeper Phan Dinh Bach of PVF, midfielder Nguyen Le Quang Khoi of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and midfielder Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc of Hanoi.
The remaining players are all names that attended the recent training session as well as participated in the 2024 Peace Cup international football tournament, taking place from August 16 to August 20 in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China.
In this tournament, despite a poor start when losing 0-4 to host U.16 China, the U.16 Vietnam team had impressive performances in both remaining matches, winning 3-0 against U.16 Uzbekistan and 1-0 against U.16 Japan, thereby winning the overall runner-up position.
U.17 Vietnam will face U.17 Kyrgyzstan, U.17 Myanmar and U.17 Yemen
According to the plan, U.17 Vietnam will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from September 16 to September 29, then go to Japan for training and competition from September 30 to October 9. On October 10, coach Roland and his team will return home to complete the final preparations before participating in the 2025 U.17 Asian qualifiers.
In order to create more favorable conditions for U.17 Vietnam to compete for a ticket to the continental finals and gain the trust of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Vietnam Football Federation has decided to host the group of U.17 Vietnam in the 2025 AFC U17 qualifiers.
Specifically, U.17 Vietnam will play the role of host of Group I, taking place at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho from October 23 to October 27. Coach Roland and his team will welcome U.17 Kyrgyzstan (October 23), U.17 Myanmar (October 25) and U.17 Yemen (October 27).
