Than Vu tunnel officially opened on North-South expressway

On the afternoon of October 14, at the southern gate of Than Vu tunnel, Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district, the joint venture of investors and enterprises of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot project held a ceremony to open Than Vu tunnel (phase 1), one of the most important items on the route.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Le Anh Tuan - Deputy Minister of Transport ; Le Kim Thanh - Director of Vietnam Expressway Administration; Phung Tien Vinh - Deputy Director of Construction Investment Management Department, Ministry of Transport, representatives of Project Management Board 6, Ministry of Transport.

On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Department of Transport, departments, branches, leaders of Dien Chau and Nghi Loc districts and project construction enterprises.

Than Vu Tunnel has a total length of 1.13 km through Than Vu Mountain, the North belongs to Dien Chau District and the South belongs to Nghi Loc District, Nghe An Province, part of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway Project. This item is designed with a scale of 2 separate tunnels, each tunnel width is 13.78m, the distance between 2 tunnel centers is 45m.

It is known that phase 1 will complete the construction of the right branch tunnel for two-way exploitation, build the tunnel lining and underground drainage system for the left branch tunnel. Phase 2 will complete the entire tunnel to a complete scale with 6 lanes for motor vehicles.

Right from the design stage, Than Vu tunnel was identified as the most difficult and complicated project among the tunnels through the mountains on the North-South expressway; with weak geology, strongly weathered rocks, fragmented and interlaced... especially the geology in the area south of the tunnel. Therefore, during the construction process, the relevant parties met and discussed continuously... to come up with solutions suitable for actual geological behavior, adhering to the principle of being meticulous in internal work to ensure safety and quality in external work.

After more than 15 months of construction, with the efforts of Nghe An province, the project participants are the joint venture of investors Hoa Hiep - CIENCO4 - Truong Son - Nui Hong - Vina2 and Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company, up to now, Than Vu tunnel has been officially opened.

Tunnel opening is very important, from this point on, the coordination of personnel, vehicles, supplies and materials can go through the tunnel without having to go around on the service road, contributing to speeding up the construction progress of Than Vu tunnel in particular and the whole project in general.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway Project in particular and the North - South Expressway through Nghe An in general have important significance in the socio -economic development of Nghe An province, in which, the Than Vu tunnel item is the most difficult due to complex terrain, location and geology. However, the construction units and localities have made efforts and coordinated smoothly to ensure the tunnel clearance progress.

The milestone of Than Vu tunnel opening is the result of the smooth coordination and close attention of the Ministry of Transport and its specialized agencies, Project Management Board 6; the support and facilitation of localities, departments, branches, districts and communes of Nghe An province; the efforts to overcome difficulties, "overcome the sun, overcome the rain" of the consortium of investors, project enterprises and contractors.

Comrade Le Anh Tuan - Deputy Minister of Transport congratulated and recognized Nghe An province, enterprises and construction units for completing Than Vu tunnel - the most important item on Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway Project.
