After 7 years of being involved in the bird breeding business, Ms. Nhi, Long Son commune, Son Dong district (Bac Giang province) now has a 400 m2 bird breeding farm with 200 7-color pheasants, including 50 pairs of parent pheasants. In addition, Ms. Nhi is preserving and breeding 6-7 other types of birds such as peacocks, pheasants...
After nearly 7 years of pursuing the profession of raising ornamental birds, Ms. Hoang Thi Nhi (born in 1992), Ha village, Long Son commune, Son Dong district (Bac Giang province) has successfully built a model of raising 7-colored pheasants and was granted a code by the Provincial Forest Protection Department for raising rare animals according to regulations.
In 2015, Ms. Nhi accidentally learned about raising ornamental birds on social networks, so she boldly bought two pairs of 7-color pheasants for 16 million VND/pair to try raising.
After more than 8 months, seeing the 7-color pheasant develop and start laying eggs, she invested another 150 million VND to buy 9 more breeding birds.
To get pheasants to lay eggs, she pairs 1 male with 3 females, each female lays 20-25 eggs within 3 months (from March to June).
Ms. Hoang Thi Nhi, owner of a farm raising ornamental birds (7-colored pheasants, peacocks, pheasants...) in Ha village, Long Son commune, Son Dong district (Bac Giang province) introduces 7-colored pheasants. Ms. Nhi's facility raising 7-colored pheasants, peacocks, and pheasants has been granted a code for a facility raising rare animals according to regulations by the competent authority.
Because pheasants do not know how to incubate eggs, at first Ms. Nhi let her chickens hatch the eggs, so the hatching rate was not high.
After researching, she invested in buying a small industrial incubator, ensuring a stable heat source, helping the hatching rate of pheasant eggs reach 70%.
“Raising this type of bird is most difficult from the time the eggs hatch until the chicks are under 1 month old because the birds are susceptible to asthma and diarrhea.
Therefore, bird breeders need to pay attention to care and fully vaccinate their birds with double the dose compared to disease prevention for chickens of the same age," Ms. Nhi shared.
After 7 years of raising ornamental birds, Ms. Nhi now has a 400 m2 bird farm with 200 7-color pheasants, including 50 parent pairs.
In addition, Ms. Nhi is preserving and breeding 6-7 other rare ornamental birds such as peacocks and pheasants.
To facilitate the operation of raising rare animals, she submitted an application and was granted a code for a facility raising rare animals by the Bac Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department according to the provisions of law.
According to Ms. Nhi, for pheasants to grow well, the cage system needs to be airy, with dry straw and rice husks on the floor and enough space for the birds to fly and jump, with natural sunlight to help the birds increase their resistance and have beautiful shiny feathers.
The main food source for pheasants is bran, rice, corn crushed into small pellets by the press, supplemented with vitamins and green vegetables to help the birds stay healthy and reproduce well.
Currently, with the selling price of 1-month-old pheasants ranging from 2-6 million VND/pair, and the selling price of adult pheasants ranging from 6-12 million VND/pair, Ms. Nhi earns about 300 million VND per year.
“In addition to raising birds for passion, I continue to preserve, breed, and increase the number of 7-color parent pheasants and peacocks. I currently have a plan to expand the space for raising rare ornamental birds to more than 1,000 square meters. I aim to build a check-in point for tourists to visit, experience, and admire the beauty of these birds,” Nhi said.
In recognition of her conservation of rare bird species and bold development of new economic models, in 2022, Ms. Nhi was one of the typical advanced examples in the patriotic emulation movement and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Dong district (Bac Giang province).
